East Palestine – Regis J. Hillenbrand, 96, of East Highland Ave, passed away at 11:20 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Salem Community Hospital following a recent illness.
Mr. Hillenbrand was born October 18, 1916 in Negley, Ohio, a son of the late Frank J. and Matilda A. (Ulbrich) Hillenbrand, and had lived his entire life in the area.
He worked as a bricklayer for 40 years, retiring in 1981 from Potter Construction Electric Furnace. Regis was a 60 year member of the Bricklayers Union #8. He also proudly served our country in WWII as a member of the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal and was a life member of VFW Post #4579.
Regis was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting.
His wife, Helen L. (Lindsay) Hillenbrand, whom he married May 25, 1946, preceded him in death November 25, 1986, as did his sisters, Ruth Colon, Eleanor McCague, Evelyn Williams, Wilma Jean Redmond and Joanne Blaurock.
He is survived by his daughter, Regina L. Hillenbrand of Marion, Ohio; son, Edward R. (Ginger) Hillenbrand of Sidney, Ohio; sister, Carol Murray of Onalaska, TX; grandchildren, Tracy (Chad) Scully and Frank (Danielle) Hillenbrand; and five great-grandchildren.
Following his wishes, no calling hours or funeral services will be observed. Private burial will take place at a later date.
