WASHINGTONVILLE – Mattie Hart Hanners, 88, of West Main Street, died at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Salem.
Mrs. Hanners was born Sept. 4, 1924 in Oak Hill, W.Va., a daughter of the late Marion and Susie Clay Wright.
She had been employed as an office manager for the former Insul Company in East Palestine for 40 years. She was a 50-year member of the Reber Chapter 161 Order of the Eastern Star in Lithopolis, Ohio. Mattie was an artist who loved to paint, quilt, knit and crochet. With her talents she made baby blankets for many babies and throws for disabled veterans. She also loved gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Hanners, whom she married July 23, 1983; a daughter, Joyce (Charles) Doll of East Palestine; a son, Roger (Gwen) Hart of Storm Lake, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Deborah (Gordon) Buckner of Mineral Ridge; a step son, Dennis (Deborah) Hanners of Indian Mound, Tenn.; two sisters, Myrtie Black of Ostrander and Joyce (Bill) Hague of Gahanna; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Lindsay) Hart, Tara Doll, Darren Doll, Jessica (Joseph) Merwin; Michael (Kayla) Buckner, Jacob Tyler Buckner, Amy (Chris) Flowers and April (Adam) Kincaid; seven great-grandchildren, Madeline, Wyatt, Kierstin, Mikayla, Iris, Lexi and Colton; and her brother-in-law and sister-in law, Wayne G. and Joanie Hanners of Dublin.
A sister, Tinnia Atkins, three brothers, Harlin, Ronal and Orville Wright, as well as two infant siblings preceded her in death.
No services will be held. Burial will be in Glenview Cemetery.
