SALEM – Mary Elizabeth Brown, 89, of East Pershing Street, Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 1, 2013 at Circle of Care in Salem following a lengthy illness. She was born in Charleston, W.Va., on Jan. 10, 1924 and was a daughter of the late William Henry and Alma Mildred (Harrison) Comer.
Living most of her life in this area, she was member of the Church of Jesus Christ and a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Her husband, Thomas Henry Brown, died in June 1996.
She is survived by four sons: David Jarrell Jones and his wife Ruth of Ashland, Ohio, Thomas R. Brown and his wife Phyllis of Cambridge, Ohio, Benjamin H. Brown of Lisbon, Ohio and Odell P. Brown and his wife Lora of Hartville, Ohio; two daughters: Mildred Louise Gary of North Benton, Ohio and Kathaleen Boyd and her husband Joseph of East Liverpool, Ohio; five brothers: James Comer, Jack Comer, Robert Comer, Frank Comer and Eugene Comer; two sisters: Lou Rice and Virgie Dawson as well as 25 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one brother: Benjamin Comer; two sisters: Myrtle Skeens and Naomi Dunlap, as well as one grandchild.
Services will be held at the Calcutta chapel of Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. with elder Joseph Boyd officiating.
Burial will follow in York Hill Cemetery, Yorkville, Ohio.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
