SALEM – Jay Allen Denny of Salem, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his home following a courageous 10-month battle with lymphoma. Born on July 13, 1948 in Salem, Ohio, he was the son of the late Jay Edward and Wilda Bricker Denny and was a lifelong resident of the family farm.
A 1966 graduate of West Branch High School, he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tri-State College in Angola, Ind., in March 1971 and remained a life member of the Indiana Theta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
He served in the U.S. Army as an MP detached out of Fort Carson, Colo. from 1971 through 1973. During this time, he obtained his private pilot’s license.
Jay was employed in the engineering department at Alliance Machine Company in Alliance for over 26 years and since 2002 worked as a senior project manager at TLT Babcock in Akron. He was registered with the state of Ohio as a licensed professional engineer and was a member of Damascus United Methodist Church.
Jay enjoyed riding his motorcycle on back country roads, maintaining the farm on which he was born and raised, and sharing his love of the land with his three grandchildren.
Left to cherish his precious memory are his wife of 36 years, Suzanne Burton Denny; son Brent (Lindsay) Denny of Sylvania, Ohio; daughter, Brynn Denny (Julie Greathouse) of Rohnert Park, Calif.; three grandchildren, Zachary and Zoe Denny and Georgia Denny-Greathouse; and two sisters, Patricia (Paul) Frank of Independence, Ohio, and Donna (Al) Lutz of Salem, Ohio.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2013 at Stark Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Amey officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park.
