DeSOTO, Fla. – Clarence “Sonny” L. McLaughlin, 73, of Arcadia, Florida passed away March 29, 2013. He was born July 19, 1939 in Lisbon, Ohio. Clarence married the love of his life, Joann Burton, on his birthday, 54 years ago. Together they raised a son and daughter.
He worked as a welder and in maintenance at an asphalt plant for many years. Clarence and Joann moved to Arcadia in 2001. He enjoyed woodworking, including cabinetry and the art of “turning” (making ornamental furniture), camping and traveling. Clarence loved his family, God, and his church.
Clarence is survived by his beloved wife, Joann McLaughlin, of Arcadia, Fla., son, Terry (Patricia) McLaughlin, of Mansfield, Ohio, daughter, Teresa (Mike) Harmon, of Arcadia, Fla., brother, David (Kathy) McLaughlin, of St. Petersburg, Fla., sisters; Margaret Randolph, of Bethany, Okla., Grace (Bobby) Wade, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Ruth (Don) Dillon, of Palm Harbor, Fla., Jean (Richard) Reynolds, of Archer, Fla., grandchildren, Shawn (Mandy) Harmon, Hannah McLaughlin, great granddaughters; Nevaeh and Chloe Harmon. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; Leroy and Edith Horner McLaughlin and brother, Paul McLaughlin.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Pine Level Methodist Church with Pastors Brian Russell and Terry McLaughlin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pine Level UMC, 9596 NW Pine Level St., Arcadia, Fla. 34266 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
