Patricia Hadley

EAST LIVERPOOL – Former Columbiana County Auditor Patricia Hughes Hadley, of East Liverpool and also of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away following a lingering illness at UPMC Pittsburgh at 11:37 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013. Pat, as she was known to her legions of friends, had also served as East Liverpool City Auditor at one time. She was 74.

A daughter of the late Andrew G. and Eileen Rolley Hughes, she was born in East Liverpool on Sept. 9, 1938. Pat was graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1956 and married her high school sweetheart, Robert L. “Bob” Hadley on May 30, 1956. Together, they raised their family in East Liverpool, and immersed themselves in the community. One was rarely seen without the other, until his death on May 19, 2012.

Known for her outgoing personality and kindness to everyone she met, Pat was involved for many years in the Columbiana County Republican Club, the East Liverpool Rotary Club, and served on the boards of the YMCA and the Salvation Army. In 1989, she was honored by the East Liverpool Chamber of Commerce as the first female Boss of the Year. She and Bob were also very involved in the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and remained proud “Potter” fans, even after retiring to the Fort Myers, Fla., area in 2000.

The Hadleys were longtime members of Virginia Avenue Church of Christ in Chester, and also belonged to Gulf Coast Church of Christ in Florida.

Pat is survived by her loyal and loving children, all of whom reside in East Liverpool: Catherine L. Smith and her husband, David, Amy E. Gill, Robert A. Hadley, and David G. Hadley and his wife, Marsae. There are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well.

Also surviving is a brother, Dr. Andrew Hughes and his wife, Debi, of Craig, Colo.; a brother-in-law, James Hadley and his wife, Marilyn, of East Liverpool; and a sister-in-law, Debra Melfi and her husband, Mitch, of Loveland, Ohio.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Hughes, her step-mother, Virginia Hughes, and her step-brother, Robert Patterson.

Friends may visit at Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday, where the family will be present from 2-8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, with Evangelist Frank Higginbotham of the church officiating.

Pat will be laid to rest beside her husband at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
