Millicent Mayers

EAST LIVERPOOL – Millicent “Millie” Thompson Mayers, 83, of Park Boulevard passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at 5:37 a.m. at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Born May 14, 1929 in East Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late Malcolm W. and Mildred Taylor Thompson. A lifetime area resident and also a lifetime member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, where she served on Session, she was an East Liverpool City Hospital Auxiliary volunteer. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Child Counseling Center, was a life member of American Red Cross, was a reading mentor with East Liverpool City Schools, had volunteered for many years with the PTA, and was also a member of Monday Literary Club.

She attended Penn Hall Prep School in Chambersburg, Pa., then Pine Manor Junior College in Wellesley, Mass. She then attended Finch College in New York.

Her husband, Richard C. Mayers, whom she married March 19, 1994, preceded her in death on December 29, 2008.

She is survived by three daughters, Millicent “Mitsie” Koos of East Liverpool, Mary Martha Koos of East Liverpool, and Rebecca Koos of Portsmouth, N.H.; two sons, John M. “Mac” Koos of East Liverpool, and Frederic Koos of East Liverpool.

There are four grandchildren, Dennis Williams, Dr. J. Donald Williams and his wife Brandi, Aaron Koos, Jared Koos and his wife Noelle; five great-grandchildren, Deanna Williams, Colton Williams, Logan Koos, Carter Koos and Julius Davis.

In addition, she also leaves behind one sister, Carol Wykoff and her husband Peter, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and one brother John C. Thompson and his wife Peg, of East Liverpool. There are several nephews and a niece, Penn Plummer, Thomas Plummer, Julia Gorman, Douglas Thompson, David Wykoff and Scott Wykoff.

Friends may visit the family at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church on Park Boulevard on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Reverend Tanta Luckhardt-Hendricks will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 767 Park Blvd., East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.
