ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – John Swiger (Swager), 89, of 83rd Ave. North, formerly of Negley, passed away early Sunday morning, March 17, at Shore Acres Health Care Center, where he had been a patient.
Mr. Swiger was born Oct. 24, 1923 in Smithfield, W.Va., a son of the late Martin and Maude Snyder Swiger, and had resided in Negley, Ohio, for a number of years prior to moving to Florida seven years ago. He had owned and operated his own automotive repair business for several years in Negley prior to his retirement.
His first wife, the former Eva Kidder, whom he married Aug. 21, 1943, preceded him in death in 1981. His second wife, Eleanor Fleeson Matthews, whom he married March 4, 1986, preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2009.
Mr. Swiger is survived by three daughters, Dora Wilson, Rogers, Penny Landrum, Paris, Tenn., and Betty Cochran, with whom he resided; five stepchildren; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and Agnes Ferguson, his best friend that helped so much.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine, with a grandson, Donald Grim, officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford, Ohio. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the time of service.
