COLUMBIANA – Phyllis Sahli, 81, of Columbiana, passed away unexpectedly at her home Sunday evening.
Phyllis was born on January 29, 1932 in Wampum, Pa., a daughter of James and Mary (Locke) Wilson, and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1950 graduate of Rayen High School, she was a secretary and treasurer for North Lima High School, and later South Range High School, for over 40 years.
Phyllis was active in the Columbiana Women’s Club, several card clubs, the Columbiana Garden Club, and the rummage sale at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ.
In her spare time, she loved photography, going to garage sales and flea markets, going on day trips, and in earlier years, camping.
She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ.
Phyllis leaves to cherish her precious memory her son, Daniel (Tamara) Sahli of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Steve Newton, Jessica Newton, Erika Sahli, and Adam Sahli; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Hailey Newton; her brothers, Jerry (Patty) Hoover, of Youngstown and Donald (Gina) Hoover of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and James (Lois) Hoover of Phoenix, Ariz.; and her son-in-law Chuck (Grace) Newton of Austintown.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Sahli, whom she married on Nov. 16, 1950 and died on Nov. 26, 1997; her daughter, Rebecca Newton; and a sister, Beverly Jean Futkos.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ with the Rev. Melinda Q. Lacefield officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.
