LISBON – Joan R. Jackson, 77, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully at 3:42 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at Salem Community Hospital following a recent illness.
Mrs. Jackson was born April 26, 1935 in Fairmont, W.Va., a daughter of the late Earl and Ruth (Toothman) Holbert.
She graduated from Barrackville High School and Fairmont State College in West Virginia and following her college graduation taught school in Alliance, Ohio, and later taught 31 years at United Local School in Hanoverton.
Joan was a very active member of Lisbon Trinity Friends Church, where she served as a pianist, Sunday school teacher, worship coordinator and many other positions over the years.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband, Jack B. Jackson, whom she married Nov. 28, 1957; four sons, David Jackson of Lisbon, Robert “Bob” (Christine) Jackson of Austintown, Rodney Jackson and Doug (MaryBeth) Jackson, both of Lisbon; six grandchildren, J.R., Brian, Michelle, Krista, Kelly and Mindy; two great-granddaughters, Alexa and Alivia Ludwig, and soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter Amelia Ludwig; niece and nephew, Marjorie Schell and David (Melissa) Schell, both of East Liverpool, whom she helped raise; great nieces, Allison and Danielle Schell; and two former daughters-in-law, Dianne and Sheila Jackson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Jackson Holbert.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at Lisbon Trinity Friends Church, 33937 State Route 30, Lisbon, with the Rev. Richard Jones of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Wanda Frost Missionary Society at Lisbon Trinity Friends Church.
