Ernestine Bush

COLUMBIANA – Ernestine “Ernie” Bush, 90, of Columbiana, formerly of New Springfield, passed away on Tuesday evening at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana with her family at her bedside.

Ernestine was born on October 2, 1922 in Williamson, W. Va., the daughter of Baz and Maggie (Wilson) Wellman.

A 1940 graduate of North Lima High School, Ernestine retired from the Ohio Turnpike Commission after 25 years of service as a toll collector.

In her spare time, Ernie loved knitting and baking cream pies. She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima.

Ernestine leaves to cherish her precious memory two daughters, Jane (Bill) Strohecker of East Palestine and Diane (Brian) Seybert of Columbiana; a son, Robert (Cindy) Bush of Winchester, Calif.; three sisters, Dorothy Smith of Columbiana, Louise Detwiler of Salem, and Anna Detwiler of Niles; three brothers, Lowell (Jan) Wellman of Sebring, Pete (Shirley) Wellman of North Lima, and Lonnie (Carolyn) Wellman of Burnsville, W. Va.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin “Dee” Bush, whom she married Oct. 30, 1946 and died on June 4, 2002; two sisters, Rose Ockerman and Alice Weaver; and a brother, Herman Wellman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ with the Rev. Melinda Q. Lacefield officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.
