County Sheriff

— Deputies responded to a Fife Coal Road residence for an alarm at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday. The homeowner, Eddie Murphy, said she was having problems with her alarm and the alarm company was aware of the problems.

Highway Patrol

— Shelynn M,. Barrett, 28, of Carrollton, was cited for failure to stop an assured cleared distance after she drove into the rear of a vehicle operated by James Headley, 55, of Salem, who slowed for a deer on state Route 9 in Hanover Township at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.

— Micah R. Chamberlain, 42, of New Waterford, was cited for failure to control after he drove off the road, struck a tree and overturned while driving on Lower Elkton Road in Fairfield Township at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.

— UPS driver Derek A. Brown, 45, of Boardman, was cited for improper backing after backing into a semi operated by James A. Adams, 43 of East Palestine, on Riffle Road in Elkrun Township at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday. Both were heading southbound when Brown stopped and began to back up, striking the semi.

Columbiana

— Lucas McEldowney, 28, of East Liverpool, was cited for driving under suspension following a traffic stop on West Park Avenue at 11:11 p.m. Wednesday.

— Tiffany M. Rabquer of Boardman reported Tuesday her Jambox, bluetooth speaker and ultimate ears were stolen from a home on North Middle Street.

East Palestine

— A burglar alarm went off at a West High Street residence at 2:14 p.m. Saturday, but the home was found to be secure.–

A barking dog complaint on North Market Street was received just before midnight Dec. 5. An officer spoke with the owner, who agreed to take the dog inside.

— A woman asked police to remove a man from her residence at 650 E. Martin St. at 9 p.m. Sunday.

— Police were called to 1190 Bacon at 9:43 p.m. Saturday about phone harassment.

— Police were called to an East Clark Street on Monday after a woman reported her daughter was refusing to go to school or listen to her mother. Police arrived to escort the girl to the middle school.

— An official with a home health care company reported Tuesday that medication was missing from one of their clients at 66 W. Washington St.

St. Clair Township

— Sarah Masone, no age or address listed, reported she was leaving the police department parking lot after a custody exchange and the person with whom she had made the exchange swerved his vehicle at her vehicle. Her attorney advised she file a report.

— Christopher Seachrist, no age or address listed, reported being called by an unknown man asking to fix his computer. Seachrist sent him a $399 check with his bank account routing number then later realized it was a scam when the man asked for more personal information. Seachrist advised his bank and closed the account.

Wellsville

— Brenda Henthorne, Wood Street, reported at 7:51 p.m. Dec. 8 they noticed the bathroom window was slightly open and were concerned about a break-in. No sign of entry was found.

— Melody Duffield was driving down Main at about noon Sunday and her mirror struck the mirror of a parked vehicle owned by Darlene Zanders. Both mirrors were broken off.

— Police were called around midnight Tuesday to 15th Street. Officers found Derrick Thompson sitting in a car driven by JoLynn Varrati. Thompson, who was unconscious, came to when administered Narcan by Lifeteam EMS. He was taken to ELCH. Varrati was cited for expired registration.

— Cristina Spiegel, Broadway, reported at about 10 a.m. Tuesday she has a protective order against Randy Martin and he tried to enter her home. He told her if she called the police he would burn down her house and ruin her car. Police spoke with Martin, who admitted going over to her house to get his fishing poles. Martin was cited for violating a protection order.

— Leana Rexroad reported at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Abby Pierson borrowed her vehicle, a gold 2000 Ford Explorer, at about 8 p.m. Tuesday and was supposed to return it a half-hour later. She still had not brought it back. Rexroad said Pierson, who does not have a license, may be in either Salineville or Youngstown.

Salem

— A suspicious person was reported at 1:27 a.m. Thursday in the area of North Ellsworth and East Third dressed in shorts and a T-shirt and wearing a bandanna over his face. Police saw the person walking on the sidewalk on East Third near North Broadway and noted he had on light-colored pants, not shorts. He said he was using the bandanna to keep his face warm while walking to a friend’s house. Police saw no problem.

— Police conducted a traffic stop at 9:52 p.m. Wednesday in the 2300 block of East State Street, noting that the driver/registered owner had a warrant. Officers made contact and confirmed the person was out of the pickup radius for the warrant. Officers were able to smell a strong odor of marijuana and a probable cause search was conducted. A small trace of marijuana was seized to be destroyed. Due to the driver admitting to recently smoking marijuana, the vehicle was left in the public parking area and the driver was transported to a residence.

— Police responded to the area of East Pershing Street behind the hospital at 9:41 p.m. Wednesday for a report of several people in a dumpster. No one was found.

— Jarrod Knepper, 35, of Benton Road, was cited for a minor misdemeanor charge of open container after admitting during a traffic stop at 8:13 p.m. Wednesday on Benton Road that an open can of beer found under the passenger seat was his. He was a passenger in the vehicle pulled over. Occupants gave consent for a search of the vehicle and that’s when the beer was found. The driver was given a verbal warning for a turn signal violation.

— Glen Windram, 67, of Leetonia Road, Leetonia, was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control after a single-car crash at 5:14 p.m. Wednesday in the 2000 block of Merle Road near Southeast School which left his car overturned and him trapped inside after he said he reached for a sandwich and traveled left of center. An officer who arrived on the scene spoke to him through a window and he said he was fine. He declined medical treatment. The fire department cut out the windshield of the vehicle and he was able to safely exit. After speaking to witnesses and investigating, police determined the driver was westbound on Merle Road, went left of center and struck the opposite lane curb, then struck a no parking sign with the driver side of the vehicle, went over the sidewalk and struck a rock, sending the vehicle airborne. The vehicle then landed on its hood in a driveway and slid into another yard, coming to rest on the passenger side. Sinsley’s Towing was able to flip the car and load it onto a flatbed. EMT had also responded.

— A woman in the 200 block of West Pershing Street reported at 4:51 p.m. Wednesday that a female known to her sent her threatening messages via social media about bringing friends to her house to beat her up. The report said it was over some property at her house that she left there. She was told to report the incident to Facebook and call police if anyone shows up at her house that she doesn’t want there. The property dispute over a sweater and food card was civil and she was advised to see about having a third party pick up the property. Officers attempted to locate the female, but she is homeless.

— A parking complaint was reported at 4:47 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of South Union Avenue where a woman said there was a vehicle parked in her back yard and she did not know who it belonged to. Officers made contact with the registered owner’s relative at another residence who said the vehicle broke down and they were going to move it as soon as they had enough people to push it. The woman was ok with that as long as the vehicle got moved soon.

— A woman reported Wednesday that a known person contacted her business in the 400 block of East State Street and made comments she felt were threatening in nature. She requested the person be advised to cease all contact, which has been done. The person denied making threatening comments, but agreed to cease further contact.

— Cody Valentine, 23, of Lisbon Street, Leetonia, was cited for a stop sign violation after he admitted he did not see the stop sign while traveling on South Madison at East Pershing and by accident struck a westbound vehicle on Pershing driven by Brittany Dole, 33, of Elberon Avenue, at 12:09 p.m. Wednesday.

— A woman in the 1300 block of Carole Drive reported at 10:08 a.m. Wednesday that she was having some problems with a person known to her. She was told her options. Officers made contact with the other person and told him to have no more contact with her.

— Police were called at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday to the 2500 block of Lexington where a man said he was trying to pick up his son at his ex-girlfriend’s house in Salem and they had a verbal dispute. He alleged that she slammed the door on his left ankle, causing injury. He then left the residence and she called and told him to come to her workplace to pick up the boy, so he responded and they got into another argument and she refused to turn over the child. He remained there and called police. Officers advised both to seek advice from an attorney regarding visitation rights and custodial visitation rights. Photos were taken of the man’s injury and the case will be reviewed by the prosecutor.

— A reckless vehicle was reported at 7:24 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Newgarden Avenue. The vehicle was found parked at a business and police advised the driver of the complaint.

— An officer on patrol at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday found a German Shepherd dog in the back lot of the high school with a red collar and blue dog license tag. The dog wouldn’t let the officer close enough to see the tag or collar. The humane officer was contacted, but the dog disappeared. The report said the dog did not show signs of aggression but appeared hungry.

Leetonia

— A staff member at Horizon Home, 167 High St., reported at 8:46 a.m. Wednesday that one of her patients was being non-compliant with staff and making threats towards other patients and staff. Police arrived and the 65-year-old male patient was pink-slipped and taken to Salem Regional Medical Center by Leetonia EMS. A pink slip requires the person to go to the hospital. Columbiana Police also arrived for backup.

Salem

— Firefighters were called at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday to the 1000 block of East Sixth Street for a carbon monoxide investigation where occupants of the residence had headaches. KLG ambulance was also enroute due to possible patient symptoms. Firefighters learned that the resident had recently replaced the battery back up to their plug-in carbon monoxide detector. Firefighters checked the residence with their meters and found all readings to be normal. The residents declined treatment when KLG arrived.
