Salem

— Phillip Cline, 45, of 647 W. Wilson St., was taken into custody on a warrant out of Columbiana County for crimes against persons after an anonymous caller at 9:22 a.m. Monday requested a well-being check on the female resident and a male with a warrant was there. Officers observed the female to be ok and made contact with the male, who was turned over to a deputy sheriff.

— Larry White, 62, of East Fifth Street, was cited for driving under suspension after a traffic stop Monday night on Pershing near Lundy after an officer saw a vehicle fail to use a turn signal while turning. The vehicle was left in a parking lot after the stop.

— Stephanie Humphrey, 25, of New Waterford, was cited for expired license and given a warning for expired registration after a traffic stop on East State Street near Ohio Avenue at 11:38 p.m. Monday. A valid driver came for the vehicle since the passenger also had an invalid license.

— Nicholas Hoskins, 36, of 18th Street, Sebring, was charged with assault and taken to the Columbiana County jail after turning himself in to police after an assault incident earlier in the night. The victim had come to the police station at 10:16 p.m. Monday to report being assaulted in the 200 block of North Broadway Avenue. He said he met up with a female at Broadway Plaza to talk and they were going back to her apartment in the area. As they began to walk north on North Broadway, two males emerged from behind the Broadway Plaza building and he was assaulted in the road. The victim said the male suspect punched him in the throat, then punched him a few times in the face before kicking him between the legs. He said the suspect also threatened to kill him if he reported the incident to police. The victim had red marks on his face and neck. Fire department first responders and KLG arrived at the police station and the victim was taken to the hospital. Later the suspect showed up and admitted to the assault.

— Rizo De La Pez Guadlude, 31, was cited for failure to yield and no license after a two-vehicle accident at 4:51 p.m. Monday on Walnut Street. The cited driver was backing out of a private drive and struck a vehicle that was eastbound on Walnut Street. The police report did not list the name of the other driver or the address of the cited driver.

— A boy told police at 8:28 a.m. Monday that he saw a large kitchen knife laying on the sidewalk in the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue while walking to school. An officer responded and located the knife on the sidewalk, taking it to the station for disposal.

— A break-in at Quality Trailer, 1664 Salem Parkway West, was reported at 6:03 a.m. Monday. The front glass door was shattered and multiple items were taken.

— A woman in the 2200 block of Kennedy Drive reported at 4:37 p.m. Monday that sometime since July this year, a tan lock box has come up missing from her residence. The box contained personal documents and no money. She was told to check her credit for any possible fraud.

— A woman from a business in the 500 block of East State Street called at 3:11 p.m. Monday to report a theft involving a male and female leaving the business with her following them. Officers found the male and female and questioned them about the reported theft. Due to circumstances of the call itself, officers will continue to investigate and possibly bring up theft charges on both people at a later time.

— An officer at 2:50 p.m. Monday spoke with another police agency regarding a suspicious phone call they received from an Ohio number.

— Police were called at 2:03 p.m. Monday for a dispute no longer in progress in the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue. A woman said she came home and found her house was entered and all her property tossed about. Only one other person has access to the property. The incident will be sent to the prosecutor for review.

— Criminal damaging was reported at 1:07 p.m. Monday in the 2500 block of Southeast Boulevard where a heavy duty equipment vehicle had the windshield broken out.

— A woman in the 1800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue reported at 12:26 p.m. Monday that someone broke into her garage and stole multiple items.

— A possible scam was reported at 11:53 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of Cherry Street where a woman said she received a call from someone claiming to be her son and advising he was in an accident and asked that she send money. She spoke to her son after the call and it was not him that called. She was told it’s a scam and to never send anyone money with any future calls like that.

Perry Township

— Police responded at 4:47 a.m. Tuesday to the area of North Lincoln Avenue near the four-lane for a car vs. deer accident involving Christopher Smith, 42, of Salem, who was northbound on North Lincoln when the deer entered the road and was struck. His vehicle sustained no damage.

— A caller at 6:54 p.m. Monday reported a suspicious person wearing a yellow jacket going door to door asking people if they had new roofs. Police located two males, one on Apple Street and the other on Plymouth Place, who were going door to door for Erie Construction trying to sell metal roofs. Both were told to stop soliciting for the night due to it being dark. They left the area.

— A man in the 1100 block of East 11th Street called at 12:15 p.m. Monday to report hearing noises outside of his bedroom window overnight but did not go out and look until the morning. He reported finding decorative stones knocked over and found footprints leading from the window area through the yard to the road.

— The manager of Salem Acres on Prospect Street was inquiring with police at 9:41 a.m. Monday about a possible trespass issue. After speaking with the legal advisor for the complex, the issue will be placed on hold for now.

— Jeremiah Weibush, 23, of Minerva, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after his eastbound vehicle on state Route 45 near South Lincoln Avenue collided with the rear of another eastbound vehicle, causing damage to the trunk and rear bumper at 6:51 a.m. Monday. The police report did not identify the driver of the damaged vehicle.

Salem

— Police responded at 11:06 p.m. Monday to the 2500 block of Lexington for a dispute, with officers separating the parties and being told there was no violence. The dispute occurred over property and both were told their options.

— An officer on patrol in the city at 10:56 p.m. Monday saw a female inside her vehicle with her head down for several minutes. Upon checking the female’s well-being, the officer was told she was on her phone and waiting to pick up a friend from work. There was no suspicious activity.

— A dog was reported at large at 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of Prospect, but was not found.

— A barking dog was reported at 8:18 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of Rose Avenue, but had already been taken inside.

— A man in the 600 block of East Fifth Street reported at 7:21 p.m. Monday that someone tried to catch his house on fire. An officer observed a small area near the front porch where someone started a fire. Officers took photos of the damage.

— A suspicious person described as a male with long hair wearing a jacket and hat carrying boxes westbound on Prospect was reported at 7:16 p.m. Monday, but was not found.

— A caller at 6:55 p.m. Monday reported a skater in the road in the area of Benton Road and West State Street. The caller said the person was on a hover board and he was unable to see him due to dark clothing. The person was gone when police arrived.

— A resident in the 1800 block of Fairview Court reported at 6:50 p.m. Monday that someone was banging on their door. The person was gone before police arrived and no one was located in the area.

— A woman in the 200 block of South Howard Avenue reported at 12:38 p.m. Monday that a known female refused to give her back her phone after she lent it to her to use. Officers will attempt to contact the female.

— Police responded to Summit Street for a report of found property at 12:30 p.m. Monday when a woman said a drug pipe was given to her from her adult daughter. The pipe was taken to the station for disposal.

— Police responded to a complaint at 11:40 a.m. Monday about a vehicle parked in a front yard in the 1600 block of East State Street. The owner was advised and said he would move the vehicle to the driveway.

— An officer spoke with a woman at the police station Monday morning regarding a sexual harassment offense that occurred in the 600 block of South Ellsworth Avenue several months ago. The case was under investigation.
