County Sheriff

— Jerry A. Hoschar, West Main Street, Washingtonville, reported at 5:37 p.m. Tuesday, someone stole his new crossbow from his home. He believes it may have been a man who lives there with him named William Tullis, who was acting suspiciously when Hoschar came home. Hoschar told deputies Tullis was in the back apartment with David Swaney at that point. Deputies spoke to two men there, who claimed they did not know Tullis. One man claimed to be Robert Riggs and the other Swaney. When asked for identification, they gave the Social Security numbers, which did return to Swaney and Riggs. Swaney’s story changed when deputies said they knew he was with Tullis earlier. He admitted he and Tullis went to Salem for pizza and Tullis left, but he did not know anything. Hoschar identified Riggs as actually being Tullis, which was confirmed when deputies produced photos of each man. Tullis, 35, state Route 558, Leetonia, and Swaney, 52, state Route 344, Leetonia, were both charged with obstructing official business.

— Someone reported a woman screaming inside a home on Allen Drive in Center Township at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday. Bailey Rene Gortney, New Philadelphia, told deputies she was on the telephone speaking with her mother about something that upset her.

— Valerie J. Buchanan, Macklin Road, Unity Township, reported at 1:28 p.m. Tuesday, someone stole her CSI Environmental trash can.

Highway Patrol

— David J. Evans, 83, Macaw Road, Minerva, was southbound on Rochester Road in Knox Township at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday and went off the west side into a ditch, culvert and landscaping barn stone. He was cited for failure to control.

— Jacquelyn Rose Tomasino, 29, Youngstown, was northbound on state Route 11 in Elkrun Township at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday and hit a deer.

— Masten J. Ferrier, 55, Highland Avenue, Salem, and Benjamin Reed Coleman, 17, Lisbon Road, Lisbon, were southbound on state Route 45 in Center Township at 7:25 a.m. Monday and Ferrier stopped in traffic and was struck from behind by Coleman. Coleman was cited for assured clear distance.

— Brandy L. Mitchell, 42, state Route 558, Salem, was northbound on state Route 11 in Fairfield Township at 7 a.m. Monday and hit a deer.

— Danny Glenn Anderson, 48, Alliance, was westbound on U.S. 62 in Knox Township at 4:36 p.. Saturday and went left of center and sideswiped Barbara Buehler, 70, Alliance, who was eastbound. Anderson then struck a utility pole. He was cited for driving under suspension, left of center and OVI.

— A vehicle owned by Valerie Tonkin, Atwater, was parked at Kent State in Salem Township when it was sideswiped by another vehicle at noon Monday. The other vehicle fled the scene.

East Liverpool

— Dispatched Sunday to Vine Street for reports of people fighting and a possible gun mentioned, officers spoke with Desiree Pinkerton, 25, who said she and her boyfriend got into an argument during a Halloween party and they ended up in the street. She said he punched her in the face and had left on foot prior to officers’ arrival, possibly having been picked up in a vehicle. Pinkerton indicated she wanted charges filed but did not want to complete the form at that time.

— Jamie C. Poole, 47, New Cumberland, W.Va. was eastbound on West Fifth Street when Hillary N. Wurster, 28, Wheeling, W.Va., came out of a parking lot, driving over a curb and across a sidewalk, striking the horse trailer being pulled by Poole. According to reports, the area where Wurster pulled from was not the exit for the parking lot. She was cited for no operator’s license.

St. Clair Township

— Anita Lovett, Dale Street, reported her 16-year-old son was told to come home from a residence where he was not allowed to be and, when he did not return after an hour, she called police. Officers found him at yet another residence on Coolidge Street and his mother took custody of her son. She was advised the procedure for filing unruly juvenile charges.

— Kenna S. Rayl, Andrews Avenue, reported stolen items. No other details were reported.

— Michael Bradway, Echo Dell Road, reported receiving phone calls from an unknown female.

— While patrolling, an officer noted people around a fire at Echo Dell Mobile Home Park and knew one of them. Robert H. Glenn Jr., had an outstanding warrant. When the officer pulled up, Glenn was no longer at the fire and he yelled into the woods for Glenn to come out or K-9 Officer Noras would come in and find him. Glenn came from the woods and was taken into custody on the warrant.

— During a traffic stop for an expired license plate, driver Rebecca A. Lucas, 49, no address listed, was reportedly seen placing something into her shirt, but when she was asked, she shook the shirt out and nothing fell out. K-9 Officer Noras was brought to the scene and alerted on the vehicle, but nothing was found. Lucas was placed in the cruiser and, after being taken to the police station, a crack pipe was found in the back seat which she admitted she placed there, telling officers she was on her way to buy more crack when they stopped her vehicle. Lucas was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, driving under suspension and improper registration.

— Nancy E. Virden, Annesley Road, reported being harassed while mowing by her neighbor, Ray Richardson, who she said told her she needs to move her signs so people don’t think the road is closed. She said he also trespassed on her property and that his actions causes her husband to have seizures. Richardson told officers he did tell her to move the signs for that reason and he was told he should not speak to Virden.

— Nicole Knauff, Homestead Boulevard, reported being harassed by her soon-to-be ex-husband and wanted a report filed.

— Chelsea Wilson, Glenn Street, reported a fight with her sister.

— Officials at Tractor Supply reported a theft. No other details were reported.

— Kylie McGurren, no address listed, reported her iPhone was stolen while she was working at Domino’s.

— Amanda Drysdale, an employee of Foot Care Associates, reported speaking to an ex-patient on the phone who became argumentative about post operative care, say he made threats to office staff.

— Zachariah Jones, Stagecoach Road, reported being harassed by his ex-wife, and he wanted a report on file.

— Officials of East Liverpool Christian School, Florence Street, reported issues with an ex-student, with no other details reported.

— Debra Rosa of Calcutta Commons, reported her son spit on her during a verbal altercation. She said she has been allowing his girlfriend and children to stay with her because her son has been abusing his girlfriend at their home in Midland, Pa. Rosa wanted a report on file.

— Shoshana Feldman, owner of Limeaid LLC on St. Clair Avenue, reported finding a broken window at her business, which appeared to have been entered. Nothing appeared to be missing.

— William James, Wyoming Avenue, told police four people came to his house looking for a fight with his juvenile son.

— Tonya Pickens reported a custody dispute with her 10-year-old son’s father, who would not allow her adult daughter to pick up their son. The father, David Howard, told police the daughter is driving without insurance and other violations and he does not want his child in the vehicle. They were referred to their attorneys.

— While hunting near Gretchen’s Lock on Sprucevale Road, Michael Debacco, no age or address listed, came out of the woods to find his 2007 truck missing.

— Police were notified by Walmart officials at 4:16 p.m. Sunday a woman had been in the store since 7 p.m. Saturday and was still there and seemed mentally unstable. Officers spoke with her boyfriend, who said she is addicted to several types of pills and takes unprescribed suboxone and said he had tried several times to get her to leave the store, but she would not. North Star Critical Care ambulance was called, and while she was being treated, officers asked if they could look in her purse, but she jumped up saying they could not. They nonetheless searched the purse, reportedly finding pills which they took as evidence to be tested, with possible charges pending. Since the woman had been awake more than 24 hours, she was transported to the hospital.

— A purse was reported stolen from the unlocked car in the driveway of Jeanette B. Spencer, Cannons Mill Road.

— Kyle VanFosson, Staunton Avenue, reported finding his garage door open and his dirt bike stolen. Officers said window screens were cut to gain entry to the garage, and the door was manually raised to remove the motorcycle.

Salem

— Police were called at 3:58 a.m. Wednesday to McDonald’s, 1892 E. State St., for two abandoned bicycles left in the parking lot. The bicycles were taken to the police station for safekeeping.

— Police responded to the area of East Sixth Street and Hawley Avenue for a request at 1:14 a.m. Wednesday to check the well-being of a female parked in the area in a tan Chevy sedan. Officers located the vehicle in the 500 block of South Union Avenue where the female said she had some mental disabilities and had an argument with her husband. She said she did not need any medical assistance and would stay with her mother for the night. She was transported to her mother’s residence.

— William Hebron, 25, of Macklin Road, New Waterford, was cited for possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia and given a warning for two brake lights required after a traffic stop for an equipment violation at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday at Franklin and Maple. Officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle and asked the driver to exit the vehicle, patting him down for weapons and asking him about the odor. The report said the driver admitted to possessing a marijuana pipe with burnt residue and handed it over. Located on the driver was a vape pen with a marijuana odor and a cartridge of CBD oil, which was suspected to contain THC. All items were seized, with the cartridge being sent for testing and possible felony charges to follow.

— A suspicious person was reported at 10:22 p.m. Tuesday on Woodland Avenue where a man reported seeing a male in black clothing going through his back yard earlier in the day and then becoming concerned when his car alarm was going off before calling police. Officers searched the area but did not find anyone.

— An officer on patrol at 9:36 p.m. Tuesday saw a vehicle parked with the interior dome light on and nobody around at a business in the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue. The vehicle was found unoccupied and secured.

— The fire department was dispatched to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday to assist a resident with an unknown issue, with police also responding. The resident advised of a faulty smoke detector, with firefighters attending to the problem.

— A neighbor dispute was reported at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Continental Drive where a woman and her neighbor got into a verbal altercation and wanted a report on file. An officer spoke to the property manager about the altercation between the tenants and both people involved were told not to go on the other’s property.

–Police were called to the Walmart parking lot at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for suspicious activity after a caller reported seeing a female and two males outside next to a vehicle causing damage to it. Officers made contact with the people who said one truck was not running and they were attempting to jumpstart it with another vehicle. One of the males said the truck belonged to him and he was hitting it out of frustration.

— A man called police at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday and reported he was notified that a male was walking around his residence. Officers made contact with the person, who said he owns the property on West Fifth Street. He told police the caller abandoned the residence two months ago and utilities had been shut off. He said he was trying to fix the property due to the condition it was left in.

— Police and fire department personnel responded to the 300 block of Morgan Court at 3:46 p.m. Tuesday for an open burning complaint for a resident possibly burning leaves. Firefighters told the homeowner to reduce the size of the fire because there was too much smoke.

— Jay Troyer, 25, of 3056 McCracken Road, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension after a traffic stop at 1:06 p.m. Tuesday at East Pershing and South Lundy. K-9 Argo indicated to a narcotics odor and a probable cause search yielded drug paraphernalia. Troyer was taken into custody and taken to the county jail.

— Police responded with fire department personnel at 11:42 a.m. Tuesday to the 600 block of Prospect Street for phone lines down. The line was pulled out of a tree and placed by the pole on the south side of the road. The homeowner was advised.

— A woman in the 500 block of Walnut Street reported Tuesday her tires were slashed the previous evening.

— A man reported at 10:22 a.m. Tuesday that someone broke into a vacant residence he is trying to sell on East Sixth Street and broke multiple windows and made forced entry.

— A license plate found at Reilly Stadium was turned over to police at 8:57 a.m. Tuesday.

— A woman in the 100 block of East Fifth Street reported at 8:41 a.m. Tuesday that someone unknown removed her gas can from her garage and now the man who mows her grass can’t because he has no gas.

— Police responded to the 200 block of Jennings Avenue at 7:59 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a girl not wanting to go to school. Officers told the girl she needed to go. She gathered her things and was taken to the high school by a relative.
