POLICE

County Sheriff

— Elizabeth J. Showalter, Lodge Road, Fairfield Township, reported at 8:45 p.m. Monday she wanted two people removed from her property. Deputies fund a vehicle with Chad Love and Stacy Richardson inside. Love was taken into custody on a warrant and transported to the county jail.

— Stacey B. Stoudt, Buffalo Road, West Township, reported at 4:31 p.m. Monday someone broke into her camper at Big Arb’s Campground, damaging several items inside. She and her husband left for dinner on Sunday night and returned shortly before 11 p.m. The camper was disheveled with a dog cage smashed inward, damaged window screens and curtains, stain marks on the carpet and items thrown about while it was ransacked. Stoudt had not found anything missing at that time.

— Steven Baddeley, Salem-Alliance Road, Butler Township, asked deputies questions about the rules regarding being evicted from Butler Mobile Park also known as Deer Run Park. He told deputies he has sufficient evidence to prove the trailer he lives in is in fact his residence.

— An unresponsive woman was reported facedown in a swimming pool at a home on Mahoning Avenue at 12:39 p.m. Sunday. Homeworth Fire Department and EMT ambulance personnel performed CPR for about 20 minutes and used a defibulator, but she was not responding. The coronor’s investigator determined it was a cardiac issue and she was transported to a local funeral home per the family’s request.

— Keith Crider reported at 1:06 p.m. Sunday he has been selling his father’s former home on Crestview Road in Fairfield Township. He began receiving phone calls from people inquiring about renting the house and explained the house is for sale, not for rent. Looking on Facebook, Crider discovered someone named Michael Florence had listed the house for rent and he is concerned Florence is attempting to scam people out of deposit money if they rent the house. He also believes Michael Florence may be a fake name account.

— Janet Anderson, Opal Drive, Yellow Creek Township, reported at 9:27 a.m. Sunday her neighbor yelled at her, but there were no threats or acts of violence. Deputies spoke to the neighbor, Margaret Curtis, who denied yelling at Anderson. Both were told to leave each other alone.

— A domestic dispute was reported on Cemetery Road, Hanover Township at 10:35 p.m. Saturday. Deputies found a very intoxicated Wendy Ward in the middle of the road in front of her house and as deputies pulled up, a man ran from the street, onto a porch and into the house. Ward said the man is her live-in boyfriend John Plavka, who had been arrested on a warrant Friday night and was out on bond Saturday afternoon. He came home and started giving Wendy a hard time, so she left and went to the Hanoverton festival for awhile. When the festival ended she returned home, and he started to argue with her again. Deputies explained they can not tell him to leave the house, but agreed to talk with him. No one answered the door ,and when Ward went inside, she said he was not inside. She told deputies “thanks for nothing” and closed the door.

— Buddy Hupp, Latta Road, East Palestine, reported at 9:33 p.m. Saturday Antonio Antonas had been at the house earlier and caused a fight with Emily Matthews. Antonas struck Matthews’ chest, which Hupp did not like and he went after Antonas with the two men struggling in the driveway and the roadway. Hupp told deputies he got a gun out of his truck and fired off a round to the side to scare Antonas because he was afraid Antonas was attempting to run him over with his truck. Antonas left. Cheyenne Cooper, Antonas’ girlfriend, said she could not go home because she was afraid Antonas would beat her when she got there. Deputies told her to find somewhere else to stay because they could not throw Antonas out because of something he “might” do. Hupp and Matthews declined to press charges against Antonas. Deputies went to Antonas’ home, and he claimed he was assaulted by Hupp, Matthews and Cooper at the other house. Like the others, he appeared to be under the influence. He declined to press charges and said he was going to call a friend to get him for the rest of the evening.

Lisbon

— A loud music complaint was received on McKinley Avenue at 2 p.m. Sunday, but the music had been turned down by the time an officer arrived.

–Bob Hunt reported Friday that while he was in New York he made some purchases, and now someone is using his personal information to make purchases in New York City, including a $230 pair of shoes.

–Nancy Ventresco, Bunker Hill Road, Leetonia, was driving east on U.S. Route 30 down Canton Bridge hill at 6:13 p.m. Sunday when a tire came rolling onto the roadway and became lodged between the front tire and bumper of her SUV. The tire appeared to have come from the entrance of Willow Grove Park.

— Police were called to a West Lincoln Way apartment at 6:15 p.m. July 5 to stand by while an ambulance was summoned to transport a resident to a local hospital.

–Grey Marriner, Thomas Road, reported someone’s vehicle was parked in his driveway at 5:19 p.m. July 6. Marriner said Erick Penn had purchased a vehicle from him and then left another behind and he was concerned it was stolen. The other car was registered to Tabitha Robinson and it was not listed as stolen.

–Police were called to a home on South Green Street at 1:28 a.m. Saturday to stand by while an ambulance was summoned to transport a female resident to a local hospital.

–A caller reported hearing loud arguing on Sherman Street at 2:53 p.m. Saturday and believed the people had struck their children. Police found two adults sitting at the back patio and they said they had been yelling at their children for misbehaving, but that was all.

–Sara Burton reported the SUV was she was driving had been broken into while shopping at the Dollar General between 8 and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The car owner is William A. Davidson of Lisbon, who is her sister’s boyfriend, and he said a gold ring was missing.

— Village Park Manager Dana Blackburn reported Monday a new trash can and cleaning supplies were stolen from Willow Grove Park.

–Village Street Supervisor Jim Oliver reported Monday someone dumped grass clippings, tree limbs and rocks into the Middle Fork of the Little Beaver Creek along state Route 154, and he is concerned the section may flood should there be a heavy rain. A witness reported seeing Charles Bosel in the area with a front-end loader. The property is within the village right-of-way, and police spoke to Bosel, who said it was only some branches and such. Bosel said he was helping clean up the property and did not realize there was a problem with pushing the debris into the creek, but he will remove it.

–Kylie Gushert reported hearing a gunshot in the 800 block of North Market Street at 2:32 a.m. Monday. Police sat stationary for a period but did not hear any gunshots. Gushert said the same thing has occurred the night before.

— Police Chief Mike Abraham and Lt. Shar Daub were eating lunch at a South Market Street restaurant at 11:41 a.m. Monday when they saw a tractor-trailer strike their parked police cruiser while turning from West Washington Street. The semi continued onto East Lincoln Way before an officer activated his cruiser lights and siren to get the driver to stop. The driver, James L. Dennes II of Danville, Pa., who said he had been looking for a place to stop when he was pulled over. Dennes was cited for making an improper turn at an intersection.

Salineville

— The sheriff’s office received several hang up 911 calls from the Salineville baseball field on July 10. Police contacted the person responsible and found his cell phone was in his pocket and was dialing the number.

— A shoplifter was reported at 5:50 p.m. Friday and police identified her as someone who has been known to shoplift from Dollar General. She reportedly left the store with items, but when police caught up to her, there were no items found on her person. Police are reviewing store surveillance footage and will pursue charges if warranted.

— On July 5 police were notified about two dogs left at an East Main Street home. After finding the dogs in the home and no one around, police attempted to contact the dog warden, but were unsuccessful. The chief checked on July 6 and found the dogs were no longer at the home.

— An argument was reported on July 11 at the home of Tina Smith and Isaac LeMasters. Smith told police LeMasters owed her $500, and she was tired of him accusing her of staying out all night. LeMasters said he would get Smith the money, but not until Friday when he got paid. He asked police if he could get some personal belongings and leave for the night because he had to be at work early in the morning. After he left, police told Smith what she could legally do about the money and if she wants LeMasters removed from the house.

— A break-in was reported at a Summit Drive apartment on Sunday afternoon. Amber Humphreys told police she returned home from camping over the weekend and found her son’s bedroom door opened and the window air conditioner out of the window and sitting on the floor. Her son’s Playstation 4 was missing, along with a jar of loose change. She believes an ex-boyfriend may have been responsible.

Columbiana

— A woman reported at 12:43 p.m. Monday someone was putting live traps on her uncle’s property on Old North Street.

East Palestine

— A girl reported at 3:43 a.m. Tuesday she needed assistance with getting to a hospital. While dispatch attempted to get an officer to assist the girl she left the police station. Police found her at the Circle K a short time later and EMS were called.

— Police responded to a Lyons Avenue home at 12:46 a.m. Tuesday for a report that man was trying to harm himself. The man was taken to an area hospital.

— Police spoke with a Park Avenue woman at 11:21 p.m. Monday regarding a custody dispute.

— Police were called to an East Main Street home at 8:33 p.m. Monday for a report that someone found a rope tied to a beam in the garage and there was a bucket underneath. Police made contact with the resident who said he was fine.

— A man reported at 10:25 p.m. Sunday people were yelling at him on West Rebecca Street.

— Police were called to 300 Park Ave. at 7:32 p.m. Sunday for a report of a fight. It was found that one of the people involved had left and the fight was verbal only.

— Police were called to 540 Bacon Ave. at 10:16 a.m. Sunday for a report from Christina Holley that she had run over her husband, Kenneth Holley, with their vehicle. When police and EMS arrived it was found that the two had been in an argument and that when Mrs. Holley attempted to leave Mr. Holley refused to leave the driver’s side area of the vehicle and when Mrs. Holley backed the vehicle while the door was still open it knocked Mr. Holley to the ground. Mr. Holley was taken to a hospital by EMS and did not wish to press charges. At 5:25 p.m. Sunday, Kenneth Holley reported theft.

— Zoning violation notices for high grass were sent to the following on Sunday: Jasar Recycling, for property along Park Avenue; 254 Park Ave.; 237 Alice St.; and 684 E. Main St.

East Liverpool

— George Montgomery, 65, address not listed, was charged with driving under suspension, marked lanes, driving under the influence and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop on East Fifth Street at 5:03 p.m. Sunday. Police reportedly found a crack pipe in Montgomery’s left back pocket while placing him under arrest.

— Brandon Muscheck, East Sixth Street, reported at 7 a.m. Monday his Apple iPod was stolen from his 2019 Chevy Malibu that was parked outside of his home. Police identified the suspect as Alex Van Galder, 23, and he was charged with receiving stolen property.

Leetonia

— An officer responded to a 200 block High Street home at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday to assist the resident gain access to the home after her keys malfunctioned.

Goshen Police District

— Trent A. Marcum, 22, West Pine Lake Road, Salem, was arrested on multiple active warrants at 11:08 p.m. July 11 while at a family member’s home. He was transported to Boardman and turned over to Struthers police.

— Jeremy H. Johnson, 31, Alliance-Salem Road, Salem, was charged with possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop at West Pine Lake Road and Smith-Goshen Road at 6:37 p.m. Saturday in which he was a passenger. The driver, Steven P. McGrew, 32, West Pine Lake Road, Beloit, was cited for driving under suspension. A patrolling officer initiated the stop after observing McGrew driving and knew him to be suspended. A Salem K-9 officer responded and indicated an odor of narcotics. A search of the vehicle found nothing illegal, but a search of a backpack belonging to Johnson revealed two pills later identified as Gabapentin in a pack of cigarettes as well as a glass pipe commonly used for narcotics.

Perry Township

— Steven Whitmer, 49, of 1197 Jones Drive, was taken into custody at his residence at 9:29 p.m. Monday on an active warrant out of Columbiana County and transported to the county jail.

— Elizabeth Whitten, 24, and Elisha Whitten, 22, both of Salem, were each charged with domestic violence and transported to the Columbiana County jail after police responded to the 1100 block of West Perry Street for a domestic dispute between them at 6:13 p.m. Monday.

— A civil matter was reported at 4:16 p.m. Monday on West Perry Street.

— Elizabeth Wyss, 27, of Salem, was cited for failure to yield after attempting to turn westbound onto state Route 45 from state Route 9 and striking the back left side of a southbound vehicle driven by Cathie Miles, 59, of Dellroy, at 3:04 p.m. Monday.
