County Sheriff

— Crystal Salsberry was attempting to get her belongings out of her home on Sprucevale Road in Middleton Township without being harassed by her ex-boyfriend’s family at 7:53 p.m. Friday and requested deputies. When deputies arrived several people were moving her property out. Salsberry said her ex-boyfriend recently left after his family and friends got into an altercation. She also claimed he and his family threatened her, but upon further investigation it was learned no actual threats were made to harm anyone.

— A possible burglary was reported at a Willard Road home in Franklin Township at 4:06 p.m. Thursday. A neighbor reported they could see a man at the house attempting to pick the lock. The man then went around to the front of the house and tripped off the alarm, got in through the front door and then the alarm stopped. Then the man reportedly went back around the house and got into the garage of the home. Deputies found the man, later identified as Charles Hamner, inside the garage and detained him. Hamner said he was inside the home to work on the furnace and the property owner gave him the passcode to the alarm. The property owner, Ken Blackburn, was called and confirmed Hamner was allowed to be there. He was released.

–Donna Diane Comtois, U.S. Route 30, West Township reported 6:20 p.m. Friday she had learned people were saying they were coming to take items from her house. But when she told them she was calling deputies, they told her they were turning around. Deputies told Comtois if the people, who do not live there, do show up at her home and if they refuse to leave when she requests, she should call back and deputies would respond.

Highway Patrol

— Thomas E. Moore, 74, Foundry Hill Road, Hanoverton, was westbound on state Route 518 in Wayne Township at 2:33 p.m. Friday when the left rear tire came off the 2001 GM truck he was driving and struck the front of a eastbound vehicle driven by Thomas G. Best, state Route 558, Leetonia, and a Peterbilt Truck owned by Rosebud Mining. No injuries were reported.

— Rebecca C. Post, 45, Plymouth Street, Hanoverton, was northbound on Myers Road in West Township at 3:05 p.m. Thursday when she failed to negotiate a curve. She drove off the left side of the road and became stuck in the snow. Post was cited with driving without reasonable control and driving under suspension. The owner of the vehicle, Melissa Orr, Speidel Road, East Rochester, was cited with wrongful entrustment.

East Palestine

— John Richard Andrews, 31, Walnut Street, was taken into custody on a warrant at an East Martin Street business at 8:22 a.m. Thursday.

— A concerned citizen reported an intoxicated man getting into a vehicle after leaving the Home Savings Bank at 10:27 a.m. Friday. A woman said she had stopped the man from leaving after she saw him staggering to his truck. Frank Anthony Carelli, 59, Jimtown Road, East Palestine, was cited with disorderly conduct and given a ride to the police station so he could call for someone to come get him.

— Someone at an East Clark Street address reported at 2:32 p.m. Tuesday an assault had taken place in the parking lot of a South Market Street business. Rodger Black reported a man he knows approached his vehicle and he put his window down. The man asked Black about some property which the man’s daughter had left with Black’s daughter. When Black could not answer his question, the man punched him through the open window. Black got out and pushed the man, then started for the store, at which time he was struck several more times as he retreated into the store. The matter is under investigation.

— Police assisted Danny Lemley, Howell Avenue, after his vehicle became disabled at the intersection of Market and Rebecca Streets. The vehicle was pulled out of the intersection by someone passing by until the wrecker arrived.

Salem

— Officers assisted Perry Township police respond to a 400 block Benton Road home at 8:13 a.m. Friday in reference to a man threatening suicide with a knife. The officers found, however, no one threatening to harm themselves, but that a man and woman had been in a verbal argument. The woman had already left on foot, and the man was with his mother.

— Officers searched the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 8:54 a.m. Friday for someone dressed in a hoodie with no shoes or socks on her feet. Officers were unable to find the woman, who was reportedly sitting on a porch in the area.

— Officers responded to a 100 block Ohio Avenue home at 12:03 p.m. Friday to assist a mother searching for her 3-year-old daughter. The child was found unharmed in a pile of clothes in a closet.

— Kathryn A. Sims, 28, West 14th Street, Salem, was arrested at her home on an active warrant out of the Alliance Police Department for contempt of court and possession of drugs after officers responded to the home in reference to a suspicious person at 12:51 p.m. Friday.

— An officer responded to the 900 block of South Avenue at 1:50 p.m. Friday in reference to excessive snow in the roadway. The officer spoke with a resident who admitted to shoveling snow into the roadway and said that it would melt. He was advised he could not leave that much snow in the roadway after the road department had cleared it and he agreed to shovel back onto the curb lawn.

— An officer responded to a 500 block South Madison Avenue at 2:48 p.m. Friday where a resident reported someone had delivered something to his neighbor earlier that day and then backed their vehicle into his before leaving.

— Jeffrey R. Hamilton, 34, Monroeville, Pa., was cited for improper backing following a two-vehicle crash in the 900 block of Brooklyn Avenue at 4:09 p.m. Friday in which he backed from a driveway into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Elizabeth A. Schuster, 52, Salem, who had pulled from a nearby driveway. No injuries were reported.

— Gary A. Knapp, 36, Salem, was cited for right of way at an intersection following a two-vehicle crash at East State Street and Cunningham Road at 5:36 p.m. Friday in which he was westbound and attempted a left turn, pulling into the path of an eastbound vehicle driven by Luke Evert, 24, Salem. No injuries were reported.

— Tricia Watson, 34, Jones Drive, Salem, was charged with criminal trespassing after and officer responded to a vacant home in the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 5:42 p.m. Friday where a neighbor had seen her enter. She had no business there and did not know the property owner.

— A 600 block East Perry Street resident reported at 7:26 p.m. Friday that he had been watching his neighbor’s house and noticed an item missing from the porch.

— Officers responded to a 900 block South Lundy Avenue home at 8:06 p.m. Friday where the resident reported his roommate had assaulted him while moving out. Officers observed no physical injuries to the resident, and he refused medical treatment. He said he wished to pursue charges and did not want the roommate to return. The roommate was advised to stay off the property, but he said the resident had started the altercation. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to a 500 block Franklin Street home at 1:05 a.m. Saturday where the resident reported her juvenile daughter had been hitting the screens off the new windows at the home. Officers spoke with the daughter and advised the mother how to file unruly juvenile charges.

–Officers responded to an 1100 block East State Street business at 4:10 a.m. Saturday where an elderly man had wandered in extremely confused and disoriented. He was voluntarily transported by ambulance to the Salem hospital for evaluation and his wife was contacted.

— An officer responded to a 1300 block Cleveland Avenue home at 4:24 a.m. Saturday in reference to loud persons and found individuals working on vehicles. They were advised to stop due to the hour of morning. The officer returned several minutes later after a complaint of loud music coming from the vehicles. The individuals were given warnings and advised they would be cited if the officer had to return.
