County Sheriff

ä An alarm was reported at a home on England Drive in Unity Township at 8:39 p.m. Saturday. A sliding glass door was found unlocked in the back of the home, but deputies found no one inside. The home was secured and the owner notified.

ä James J. Denman, Lowmiller Road, West Township, reported a domestic disturbance at 5:13 a.m. Sunday. Denman reported his ex-girlfriend, Deana Henley, came to the home early that morning, appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and began yelling. Everyone at the home was awakened, including Denman and the babysitter, Michelle Smith. Hensley reportedly began to slap him and scream threats she would kill him and she would bring others to the home to beat him and rob him. She also reportedly threatened to have sex with Smithás boyfriend. Henley left before deputies arrived and Denman did not want to pursue charges because he did not believe it would improve the situation, but asked how to obtain a restraining order or protection order.

ä Deputies were requested to the county jail at 2:17 a.m. Sunday after an inmate became uncooperative, combative and reportedly was making threats to jail staff. Gary A. White Jr. had been brought in by Salem police and was clearly intoxicated. He refused to go into his cell when commanded and threatened to kill one officer when he got out of jail. White, 32, was charged with aggravated menacing.

ä Deputies checked a home on state Route 7 in Elkrun Township. The home was checked and everything appeared secure.

ä Arleen L. Wise, state Route 45, reported at 7:18 p.m. Sunday she was hearing noises coming from the basement. Deputy Luke Skidmore also heard the noises and called for additional police. ODNR officer Jesse Janosik also arrived. It was determined the noises were coming from the furnace in the basement, each time the furnace starts up.

Lisbon

ä Todd A. Kemats, 45, East Chestnut Street, was cited for OVI following a traffic stop on McKinley Street at 1:04 a.m. Saturday. Kemats said he has just finished working a long shift at nearby Pondiás restaurant and estimated he had eight to 10 drinks during that time, with the last drink was about 10 or 11 p.m. Kemats smelled of alcohol, his speech was slurred and he failed the balance test. He was also cited for having a burned out headlight.

ä Katherine Hipsley, Pendleton Street, reported Sunday losing her CAC military identification card while training for the military. She had reported the loss of CAC through her chain of command.

ä A caller was concerned about the well being of someone he knows at 4:55 p.m. Sunday. Police went to the residence on West Lincoln Way and learned the man was fine but upset about his love life.

ä Cindy Lautenheiser reported a vacant home for sale on East Washington Street had an open door at 5 p.m. Thursday. Police met the realtor at the residence and searched the house, which also had an open window and a pet entrance that was also open. The house was secured and police left.

ä Police spoke Thursday to Colton Dean and his sister, Tiffany, with Colton saying he sold his laptop computer to a village resident, who agreed to pay him $10 a month. Colton said the girl only made one payment and then quit. Police told him this was a civil dispute, but he called back later to say the girl returned the laptop and he gave him back her $10.

ä Police were called to a domestic dispute on Pendleton Street at 10:46 p.m. Friday and found Joshua and Nicole Ford, who are in the process of getting a dissolution. Joshua is residing in Leetonia but still owns the house on Pendleton Street where his estranged wife is living. He was asked by police to return home and settle the dispute in court.

ä The teenage son of Clint Reynolds, South Lincoln Avenue, was followed home from Smith Oil at 10 p.m. Saturday by someone in white pickup truck. The elder Reynolds was contacted and he confronted the driver, telling him to stay away from his son.

ä A vehicle parked in the roadway on East Lincoln Way was towed at 11:14 a.m. Sunday after police were unable to locate the owner.

Columbiana

ä Someone reported anonymously at 5:37 p.m. Sunday there was a smell of marijuana smoke coming from an apartment on South Main Street. The caller reported that the resident was a man about 40 years old and that he had an apartment full of underage kids who were also smoking marijuana. Police checked and found the man leaving the apartment as they arrived and could allegedly see dozens of beer cans and a few glass marijuana pipes inside the apartment. Police also recognized most of the people inside the apartment as underage children and forwarded the matter to the juvenile court for charges on contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. The childrenás parents were contacted by police and the children either left with their parents or arranged for other transport from the apartment.

ä Someone reported at 10:54 a.m. Sunday a 2010 white Ford Escape was struck while parked in the McDonaldás parking lot by a small silver hatchback vehicle that left the scene.

ä Breanne Little, 30, address not listed, was cited for license forfeiture at 12:08 a.m. Saturday following a traffic stop on state Route 14 near County Line Road.

ä Police were called a home on Springfield Road at 8:45 a.m. Friday for a report of a dispute between a man and woman who are going through a divorce. Police found that the matter was regarding property and stood by while the property was exchanged.

East Palestine

ä Police were called to the Dollar General store on North Market Street at 6 p.m. Sunday for a report of a manager catching a girl shoplifting. Police transported the girl back to her home and charges were filed through juvenile court.

ä Jason Ervin, age and address not listed, was cited for driving under suspension following a traffic stop on West Main Street at 6:35 p.m. Saturday.

ä Someone reported anonymously at 5 p.m. Saturday there was a fight going on near the village garage on Vine Street. Police found that a verbal and physical altercation took place on Vine Street between the two and they did not wish to press charges.

ä Police were called to the 200 block of Park Avenue at 1:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of a woman screaming. Police found the woman barking out of her kitchen window at the neighborás dog. The woman told police that she was tired of hearing the dog barking and she decided to bark back at it. The woman, who was intoxicated, was warned that if she continued to cause a nuisance she would be arrested for disorderly conduct.

ä George Eaton, Brookdale Avenue, reported at 11:34 a.m. Friday his cat was shot by a BB Gun.

East Liverpool

ä Officers were called to Scottyás Bar to do a walk-through due to recent complaints of drug activity, but they found nothing unusual.

St. Clair Township

ä An officer conducted a traffic stop on state Route 170 after realizing the driver, Joy W. Davis, 40, Ashbaugh Lane, had no driverás license and had an outstanding warrant. Davis reportedly had a small amount of marijuana in his sock and was charged with no operatorás license and possession of marijuana.

ä A vehicle behind KFC was occupied by a passenger officers identified as Lincoln J. Peacock, 18, Salineville Road, Salineville, who had an outstanding warrant. He was asked to step out of the vehicle, which officers said was emitting a strong odor of marijuana. A juvenile female passenger was asked where the marijuana was located, and she handed officers a large clear baggy of green leafy substance from the center console, according to reports. A search of the vehicle reportedly turned up a digital scale and second bag of green leafy material in the passenger door storage compartment where Peacock had been sitting. A marijuana grinder was found in a book bag in the back seat belonging to a juvenile male. Peacock was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, and the male juvenile with possession of the grinder.

Salem

ä A man came to the station at 10:12 p.m. Sunday to ask police to check on his brother in the 400 block of Hawley Avenue. He wasnát responding to his phone calls and wanted officers to stand by while he tried to make contact at the residence. Officers were able to make entry at the home and found the manás brother had fallen and needed medical attention.He was taken to SRMC.

ä A woman reported at 9:36 p.m. Sunday that she went with her boyfriend to the 100 block of Sharp Avenue to drop off his children at their motherás home and after they went inside, the mother came outside and punched her in the left eye and a fight started. She didnát want to press charges, but wanted the incident documented. Officers were later called to the residence on Sharp Avenue by the other female, who also advised of the incident and also said she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend and father of her children. The report will be sent to the prosecutorás office for review of charges.

ä An officer at 1:25 a.m. Monday saw a vehicle parked in the Reilly Stadium parking lot with the lights out. Upon checking the vehicle, two people were sitting inside eating their dinner.

ä Police checked on a security alarm at a business in the 200 block of West State Street at 11:48 p.m. Sunday, finding the exterior secure.

ä Police were called at 8:18 p.m. Sunday to the 200 block of East Fifth Street for an unruly juvenile. A woman said her daughter was being very verbally aggressive with her regarding a cell phone the daughter received from her father. The mother wanted to take the phone off of the daughter because she was grounded. Officers told her sheás the parent and can take the phone if she wants. Officers also spoke with the juvenile and advised her that her mother is in charge while sheás living with her.

ä A tree was reported down across Stewart Avenue at 8:06 p.m. Sunday. Barricades were put up and the street department was called for removal.

ä Police and fire departments were called at 6:58 p.m. Sunday to the 700 block of Prospect Street for limbs and lines down in the roadway. An officer stood by at Prospect and Granite for traffic control until barricades could be placed. The fire department stayed due to a live power line draped across the road within reach of pedestrians, but had to leave for a mutual aid fire call, with police remaining until the fire department could return.

ä A resident in the 400 block of East Perry Street reported at 6:40 p.m. Sunday that his license plates were stolen.

ä A caller at 6:05 p.m. Sunday reported loud music in the 300 block of North Lundy Avenue. Police spoke to the property owner.

ä Officers cleared a prior call for a domestic at 5:05 p.m. Sunday and observed one of the females involved apparently suffering from a possible medical problem in the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue. She confirmed she needed medical assistance and the fire department first responders and EMT Ambulance responded. She was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center. Police had been called at 4:48 p.m. for a possible domestic in the 400 block of East Euclid Street where several people were involved in a verbal dispute. Everyone advised nothing physical occurred.

ä Police responded back to an East Sixth Street residence in the 600 block for a continued juvenile problem at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The male juvenile was refusing to leave the residence with his father. Officers spoke to the juvenile and advised him he had no choice as a juvenile. Officers advised the parents of the procedure to file for disorderly conduct for the juvenile. Police had been called at 3:04 p.m. to respond to the residence when the male juvenile reported as a runaway the previous night returned home. Officers had spoken to the juvenile then and given him options.

ä A man and woman from the 500 block of East Sixth Street reported at 1:41 p.m. Sunday that a male who lives at their residence started an altercation the night before and ultimately was arrested for domestic violence. They were not home when it happened, but when they returned, they discovered he damaged their back door, entry door, kitchen table and chair. They also reported damage to the back yard fence, which by the tire tracks, appeared backed into.

ä Police responded to the area of Superior Avenue and East Eighth Street for a report of two vehicles speeding up and down the street at 11:50 a.m. Sunday. The vehicles were not found.

ä Police found all secure, both the exterior and inside, while checking an alarm at a Pennsylvania Avenue business at 6:53 p.m. Sunday.

Perry Township

ä Police at 1:50 a.m. Monday located a downed tree posing a road hazard in the 1800 block of Cider Mill Road. Officers were able to remove the tree and place it on the side of the road.

ä Police at 1:15 a.m. Monday found a dog wandering the area of Depot Road, lost during a severe storm. An officer was able to leash the dog and contacted Alchemy Acres to shelter the dog for the night since it had no tags.

ä A tree was reported down, posing a road hazard in the area of Cunningham Road near state Route 344 at 11:44 p.m. Sunday. The township road department moved the tree along with debris left on the road.

ä The township road department reported a semi parked at the south station on South Ellsworth Avenue at 8:46 p.m. Sunday, preventing fire trucks and other work trucks from coming and going. Police attempted to contact the driver so it could be moved, but also talked with fire department personnel at the scene who said it was find and was not preventing trucks from coming and going.

ä A possible motor vehicle accident was reported at 6:50 p.m. Sunday on state Route 14 due to tree limbs in the road. No vehicle or limbs were found.

ä Police took a report at 6 p.m. Sunday for a vehicle/deer crash on state Route 45 near state Route 9.

ä Police assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 1:05 a.m. Sunday with a vehicle pursuit on state Route 45 and into the Kent State University Salem campus parking lot where a suspect was arrested for driving under suspension, fleeing and eluding alongside the probable cause of speed.

ä Police responded at 12:18 a.m. Sunday for a medical call in the 1100 block of West State Street. KLG and township fire department first responders came to the scene and the man was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center.

Salem

ä Firefighters responded to a power line down in the 900 block of Franklin Avenue at 2:41 p.m. Monday. The line was a cable line and was removed from the sidewalk. The homeowner was contacting the cable company.

ä Firefighters responded at 1:10 p.m. Monday to the 500 block of East Seventh Street for a power line and a tree down. The line was found to be a cable line and the cable company was contacted.

ä An odor of natural gas was reported at 12:09 p.m. Monday in the 2500 block of East State Street. No odor was detected.

ä Firefighters were called at 8:40 p.m. Sunday to provide mutual aid to the Damascus Fire Department for a structure fire in the 10000 block of South Pricetown Road, also known as state Route 534. Salem returned to quarters at 10:44 p.m. Sunday. No other information was available.

ä Firefighters responded at 8:08 p.m. Sunday to a residential lockout in the 300 block of East Third Street.
