Lisbon

–Police responded to a dispute on North Beaver Street at 5:35 p.m. Aug. 9, where Cambra Kaufman and Brandi Sanders said they were having a disagreement but nothing more. They were told by police to quit arguing in the street.

–A caller reported there was an upset woman at the Lepper Library at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police did not find her there but located her across the street at Smith Oil and she was crying. The woman was upset about having to live at the homeless shelter on Maple Street and she feels she has lost everything. The woman said that while she was upset, she was not contemplating hurting herself.

–A caller reported there was a possible overdose on North Market Street at 10:28 p.m. Tuesday because someone was in the yard vomiting and screaming. Police did not find anyone outside engaging in this behavior, and the officers spoke to residents in the apartment complex and none of them had seen or heard anything.

–Police responded to a fire alarm at the Valley View convenience store at 1:55 a.m. Wednesday, where several people told them there was an overwhelming odor of gasoline inside the building and it was making the clerk nauseous and only getting worse. Police could also smell the strong odor of what smelled like gasoline as they approached the door, and an employee said something might be wrong with the underground fuel lines. Fire Chief Paul Gresh Jr. told the manager to shut down the gas station until they can determine the problem. The police were later told the owner wanted to keep the convenience store open, but Gresh said keeping it opened posed a safety concern.

–A caller reported the rear door was open at 120 McKinley Ave. at 11:05 p.m. Aug. 3. Police checked the residence, but one was inside, so they locked the door and left.

–A dog reported running loose on Pine Street Extension at 4:51 p.m. Aug. 9 was found stuck on a telephone pole. While investigating, the owner arrived, saying his dog had broken its lead that was attached to the house.

Salem

— An irate patient was reported at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Salem Regional Medical Center emergency room. An officer spoke to the male, who did calm down. Staff said a doctor was in the process of getting him discharged. Police had also been dispatched to the ER at 11:06 p.m. for an irate male patient who calmed down after speaking with an officer and cooperated with hospital staff.

— City police at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday were asked to assist a Perry Township officer who was checking a business with an open door in the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue. Police assisted in checking the interior and everything appeared ok.

— A driver stopped for an equipment violation in the city at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday was given a verbal warning and consented to a search of the vehicle. Nothing of significance was located.

— Robert Kastanek, 33, of 317 N. Madison Ave., was cited for disorderly conduct after police were called at 8:58 p.m. Tuesday to Dunkin’ Donuts, 2823 E. State St., for a report of a visibly intoxicated man who allegedly urinated in a nearby parking lot. Officers located the man attempting to walk into traffic. He was issued the minor misdemeanor and transported back home by a cab.

— A neighbor dispute was reported at 8:27 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Ohio Avenue where a woman said her neighbor was videotaping her. Officers spoke with the neighbor who did show officers a video she took, but neither the caller nor her children were in the video. Both parties were told to have no contact with each other.

— A domestic dispute was reported at 7:47 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue. A man said he got into an argument with his girlfriend and she told police she was afraid he was going to cause her physical harm but he seemed to have calmed down. They said they would stay away from each other for the evening to avoid another dispute.

— Suspicious people were reported in the 600 block of Bricker Farms Lane at 6:41 p.m. Tuesday, but no one was found.

— An officer on patrol in the 1200 block of East Sixth Street at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday noticed several vehicles parked illegally while at an event at the high school. They were told to move the vehicles and that they would be issued parking tickets if the violations continued.

— Suspicious activity was reported at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday in the area of the train tracks on Mullins where the caller said a vehicle was parked near the tracks and it appeared as though the driver was passed out. The driver told police he was photographing the passing trains.

— A reckless operator was reported at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue. An officer found the driver who denied all claims but was given a warning for a registration violation.

— A caller at 4:08 p.m. Tuesday reported a dog in a van in the Walmart parking lot. An officer found the van and noted the animal appeared to be in good condition and the windows were down.

— A man in the 500 block of South Union Avenue reported at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday that he was given a three-day eviction notice and the locks on the his residence were changed. He said a known male took several things before he was able to get them. The incident is under investigation.

— A woman in the 800 block of East Third Street reported at 10:22 a.m. Tuesday that she thought someone came into her house through the kitchen window while she was sleeping. She said $50 was stolen along with prescription slips.

— An officer on patrol at 2:19 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of East Third Street saw a vehicle parked that didn’t appear to have moved in some time and had expired plates from 2013.The homeowner was told to either put a current validation sticker on the vehicle or garage the vehicle. The officer will return in 10 days to check the status.

— A caller at 12:59 p.m. Thursday reported a tractor trailer struck a utility pole on the southwest corner of West State Street and South Ellsworth Avenue. The responding officer saw multiple locations on the pole that had been hit by trailers as they made the turn, with it unclear whether any of the damage was new. Ohio Edison was contacted to check the pole.

— A dispute between husband and wife was reported at 12:16 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of Aetna Street. The wife said the husband was saying rude things to her prior to leaving the house and she does not want him to return. Nothing physical took place, just rude comments. She was told officers can’t keep him from returning due to them just having an argument. She was told to call if he returns and causes problems.

— A man from West 16th Street reported at 12:15 p.m. Thursday that his 17-year-old daughter ran away. He last spoke to her on the phone Wednesday but had not heard from her. She was entered into the system as a runaway.

— A man on South Union Avenue reported at 10:53 a.m. Thursday that an unwanted male continues to come to his residence and he does not want him there. He was told to contact police if he shows up again at his residence so officers can tell him to stop and the consequences can be explained.

— A Jeep was seen parked in a front yard in the 100 block of Sharp Avenue at 8:46 a.m. Thursday, along with a junk vehicle sitting on a utility trailer in the driveway. Due to several past complaints and warnings given to the owner, a parking ticket was issued for the Jeep. A written warning was issued for the junk vehicle to have the violation corrected or the vehicles would be towed.

— An officer at 1:48 a.m. Thursday saw an occupied vehicle parked at a closed business in the 2800 block of East State Street. The officer learned the person was a contractor cleaning up oil spots on the parking lot. He was waiting for the treated spots to dry before finishing the final phase of the cleaning process.

— An officer at 12:23 a.m. Thursday located an open door at Salem High School and checked the inside of the building. Nothing suspicious was found and the door was secured.

— Two occupied vehicles were parked at Centennial Park off of Park Avenue at 10:31 p.m. Wednesday. The people said they stopped to consume fast food. They were advised of the park hours and left. The parks now close at 10 p.m.

— A woman reported at 10:09 p.m. Wednesday that she saw a vehicle back up and strike a parked vehicle in the Walmart parking lot and leave the scene. The owner of the vehicle was not concerned with the minor damage. An officer spoke to the suspect driver and she was not aware she struck the other vehicle. The officer explained the owner did not wish to pursue the matter and advised the female driver to be more careful when backing out.

— Possible harassment was reported at 7:57 p.m. Wednesday at Centennial Park where a man on a motorcycle approached a couple in a vehicle and accused them of taking pictures of children at the park. They advised no pictures had been taken.

— Residents of an apartment building in the 800 block of West Pershing Street called at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday to report a suspicious man who went around to several doors knocking and yelling and was last seen walking toward Benton Road. Officers made contact with the man, who said he was looking for his friend.

— A possible water line break was reported at 6:16 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of East Third Street where an officer located water originating from a curb side drain typically associated with a residential sump pump. The drain will be monitored to confirm it’s not a water line break.

— A woman from the 300 block of East Third Street reported at 5:56 p.m. Wednesday that she wanted to file a telephone harassment claim. She said she was text messaging a female known to her and the female started calling her names. She told the female not to contact her anymore but she continued. The female was contacted about the complaint and told to cease contact with the woman, saying the woman constantly contacts her. Both were told to cease contact with each other.

— An officer on patrol at 4:49 p.m. Wednesday saw two females screaming at each other in the bank parking lot on South Lincoln Avenue. The dispute was over money the juvenile niece said her aunt owed her. The aunt said she has custody of her niece and she was trying to get her a birth certificate so she could obtain her an Ohio ID card to use for her bank accounts. The juvenile was told to calm down several times and eventually left with her boyfriend. Officers tried to explain that her aunt was only trying to help her out.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of South Union Avenue regarding a report at 4:48 p.m. Wednesday of two small children always playing in their yard naked. Contact was made with a parent and it was recommended the boys keep their shorts on due to young females also playing in the area.

— Police were called at 4:16 p.m. Wednesday for a child custody dispute in the 2000 block of Monroe Street. An officer spoke with both people involved and both were advised of issues regarding child custody and that they have to find a better way of dealing with the issue other than arguing in public. Both agreed and the female who called left with her children.

— A caller at 4:07 p.m. Wednesday reported a semi truck with no brake lights on West State Street. The vehicle was not found.

— Police were called at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday to the 400 block of East Fifth Street for an unwanted person. A man said he was just trying to gather his property and asked the female he used to live with if he could come over to get his property. She told him he could and called police once he got there. The female told police she did not want him to get his belongings now because she claimed it was for a drug habit. After both parties argued about who does what drugs, the man got his television and was asked to leave.

— Police were called at 2:19 p.m. Wednesday to check the well-being of an older woman wearing a black shirt walking in the 900 block of West State Street. She was not located.

— A man who owns a building in the 800 block of Newgarden Avenue reported at 12:38 p.m. Wednesday that someone broke a window on the front overhead bay door, pushed in a lower panel and broke several windows in the office area. It was unsure when the damage occurred, with a neighbor noticing the damage around noon the previous day. It was unknown if anything was missing.

— Janet Smith, 78, of Adams Avenue, was cited for failure to yield after her eastbound vehicle on East State Street attempted to turn left into the Salem Plaza at noon Wednesday and failed to yield to a westbound vehicle driven by Charles Sholea, 51, of Cleveland Street. The Sholea vehicle struck the Smith vehicle in the passenger side. No injuries were reported.

— A domestic was reported at 11:58 a.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Westview. The female half left for the police department and the male half said they had an argument over her wanting to end their marriage and take their child. The female told police there was a slight altercation, but no visible injuries were seen. The matter was being referred to the prosecutor. The female had called police earlier at 10:15 a.m. over a custody issue and was told to contact an attorney.

— Police were called at 11:27 a.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of Benton Road for a well-being check on a female. Several people said she left before police arrived. Officers located her walking with family members on East State Street and she was upset over an upcoming legal issue but was ok.

— Police were told about a case of harassment at 11:21 a.m, Wednesday involving a person on West Seventh Street being called and harassed by a known person for unknown reasons.

— A domestic was reported at 11:09 a.m. Wednesday between a father and adult son and neither reported any physical violence. The son left for the rest of the day.

— An officer responded at 10:09 a.m. Wednesday to the 1000 block of East State Street to assist a city housing officer with a vehicle needing towed. A green minivan had been issued a 10-day notice and still had not been moved. A tow truck was requested, but before the vehicle could be towed, a man came out of an apartment and said he was to work on the vehicle and the owner was out of the area. He was told the vehicle was being towed for a zoning violation and the property owner wanted it removed. He didn’t think it was right and the officer asked him what right they had to park the vehicle on someone else’s property without permission. He attempted to start an argument with the officer and mentioned people from a local church parking there. He was told to move the vehicle within the next few minutes or it was going out on a flatbed. The officer stood by as the man attempted to move the vehicle and finally pulled it onto his driveway and off the property on East State Street.

— A drive-off was reported at 7:18 a.m. Wednesday involving someone in a red four-door pickup who left without paying for $17 in gas from a local gas station.

— A reckless operator was reported in the area of Walmart at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, but was not found.

Perry Township

— Police found an open door at a business in the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:39 p.m. Tuesday and checked the interior with assistance from Salem officers, then secured the door.

— Police were called at 4:31 p.m Tuesday to the 1900 block of South Lincoln Avenue for a report of a child having a mental breakdown. Police were able to calm the child down and first responders and KLG Ambulance arrived on scene to evaluate the child.

— Police were called at 3:31 p.m. Tuesday to the Supplement Station, 1139 E. Pidgeon Road, for a report of vandalism involving a vehicle with the front passenger window shattered by an object. Police discovered a lawn care company was mowing near the vehicle and may have thrown a rock and hit the window. An officer contacted the lawn care company owner and they advised they would take care of the damages.

— Property owners in the 300 block of East Pidgeon Road reported at 5:56 p.m. Monday that someone had been riding four-wheelers on their property and tearing it up. An officer spoke to the person who trespassed and advised them of the situation. The homeowners said they wouldn’t press charges as long as the person stayed off the property in the future after fixing some of the damage they caused.

— Police received multiple calls at 12:04 p.m. Monday regarding a vehicle sitting on North Lincoln Avenue near 12th street. The vehicle had no visible registration and no letter or note stating the reason for the vehicle being there. Police had the vehicle towed away due to being a road hazard and having no registration.

— A vehicle had to be towed but the driver was not cited after a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of Georgetown Road and the bypass at 8:35 a.m. Monday. The female driver of Salem was traveling on Georgetown Road when her vehicle was struck by a rock as a truck passed her going the opposite direction. She turned around and followed the truck until the stop sign at Georgetown Road and the bypass. She then got out of her vehicle to confront the truck driver and failed to put her vehicle in park. The vehicle started to roll backwards, crossing the center line and striking a ditch and coming to rest against an embankment, sustaining moderate damage.

— Police were called at 7:31 a.m. Monday to a business at 1729 S. Lincoln Ave. for a burglary. Management discovered that someone had forced their way into the building during the evening hours the night before. Power equipment, along with cash, was reported missing, and a complete list of missing equipment was being compiled after an inventory. The incident is under investigation, with a list of employees who had been fired or quit in the past 60 days provided to police.

Goshen Police District

— Officers responded to a 15000 block Western Reserve Road home at 9:03 p.m. Sunday in reference to a four-wheeler complaint. The resident and her son and her son’s friends said they had been riding the vehicles in the yard and that it may have looked like they were in the road. They were advised to remain off the street.

— A Stratton Road resident reported at 10:30 a.m. Monday that his computer had been hacked on Aug. 9 and a warning had said to call a phone number to have it fixed. He said the person on the other end of the call asked for his bank account information, and although he did not provide the information over the phone, he mailed a check for $799 to an address provided by the other person. He said he put a stop payment on the check even though it had not been cashed yet. An officer advised the resident to transfer his funds since the check would have all his account information on it.

— Melissa Orr, 46, Speidel Road, East Rochester, was cited for leaving the scene of crash involving damage to realty after turning herself in at 9:45 p.m. Monday. On Aug. 8, Orr had struck Robert’s Country Store on Stratton Road with her vehicle and left the scene. She said she left because she did not think she had damaged the building.

— An officer responded to an 11000 block Stratton Road home at 12:48 p.m. Tuesday where the resident reported finding his barn door unlocked, although nothing appeared to be out of place or missing.

— Officers responded to the 14000 block of Egypt Road at 11:57 a.m. Wednesday in reference to two suspicious vehicles but were unable to find them.

— Officers responded to a 9000 block Stratton Road home at 2:26 p.m. Wednesday where a neighbor reported a dog not being cared for properly. Officers spoke with the dog’s owner who said it is scheduled to visit a vet on Sunday. Other than a cut on the head which was being cared for, there appeared to be no signs of malnourishment.

— An officer responded with medical personnel to the Village Network group home on Sharon Lynn Drive at 9:06 p.m. Wednesday where one juvenile female had had a seizure and another had fallen down the stairs. Both were transported by ambulance to the Salem hospital.

— Eric Shawn Slagle, 26, North Lincoln Avenue, Salem, was cited for driving under suspension and no brake lights following a traffic stop at Stratton Road and state Route 165 at 12:38 a.m. Thursday.

— An officer responded to a 13000 block Alliance Salem Road home at 7:30 a.m. Thursday in reference to a 911 hang up call and found that the resident’s son had dropped his cellphone on the way to football practice and it was not working properly, possibly calling 911. Everything was found to be okay and the son was contacted to turn off the phone.
