County Sheriff

— A Main Street, Homeworth, man reported at 7:21 p.m. Thursday his 15-year-old daughter was being unruly and out of control. Deputies spoke to the girl, who said she was being mistreated by other children at the house. Deputies told all the children to treat each other with respect.

— Valerie Chlubvinski, Walnut Street, Rogers, reported at 10:25 p.m. Saturday she came from Ellwood City to her mom’s home in Rogers to get away from a man she was having some domestic problems with and he was at that point driving up and down the road past her mother’s home, honking the horn and calling her names.

— Joy Ruff, Rogers, reported at 8:06 p.m. Sunday she had not seen her neighbor, Ronald Dailey, state Route 154, Negley, for two years and that the dogs on his property were barking and grass was overgrown. While deputies were on the way to check on Dailey, he called and reported when he was coming home on Sunday he caught Clifford and Joy Ruff riding an ATV on his property twice on Sunday. He had recorded evidence of them being there. Both Clifford and Joy Ruff were cited for trespassing.

— Employees from Gorby’s in Negley reported at 8:51 p.m. Sunday there was a woman who struck a deer on state Route 170 and was at that point in the Gorby’s lot with her infant child. Heather Detrick, Opal Drive, Wellsville, reported she was driving from East Palestine toward Negley when she missed one deer and struck the second. The vehicle showed evidence of striking a deer. The headlights were secured to the vehicle so she was able to drive home.

— Tracy Amato, Mercury Drive, Wellsville, reported at 6:42 p.m. Sunday there was a man there making threats with a knife. Deputies found the man behind the house with the knife and ordered him to drop it. He complied and was placed in the cruiser, where he told deputies there were people inside his home and they threatened to kill him. Deputies checked the home, but there was no one there. Neighbors said a woman inside the house had left before deputies arrived.

— Justine Cowatch, state Route 170, Rogers, reported at 3:56 p.m. Sunday her ex, Joseph Kovacich, was leaving her home with three of the four children and threatening her with legal action for not turning over the fourth. Deputies explained he has a right to have contempt charges filed. Kovacich told deputies the other child did not want to go, so he left the child with the mother. He was not planning to seek contempt charges at this time.

Lisbon

— Richard McLemore, 43, state Route 165, East Palestine, was cited for failure to control after he reportedly crossed the center line, striking a vehicle operated by James W. Bricker, 66, Trinity Church Road, Lisbon, while the two were driving in opposite directions on Lee Avenue at 6:16 a.m. Thursday. McLemore said he hydroplaned into Bricker’s vehicle. Bricker was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

— Ila Ireland, Maple Street, reported at 1:32 p.m. Saturday a man she knows was walking down the street when he began screaming at her. She was advised the process of obtaining a protection order.

— Police were called to the Courthouse Inn at 10:41 p.m. Friday after the security alarm was activated. The manager was in the process of closing down for the night when she accidentally set off the alarm.

— Police were asked to check on the welfare of a Maple Street resident at 10:21 a.m. Saturday. The woman’s car was in the driveway, and then her cellphone was dialed and police could hear it ringing inside. Police were then given permission to break into the home, which they did, but the resident was not there.

— Mary Shaulis, Maple Street, called for an officer at 1:34 p.m. Saturday because she wanted Kevin Chris to leave, which he did after police arrived.

— Ashley Craig reported there was a reckless motorist driving into town at 1:51 p.m. Saturday but police did not find the vehicle.

— Police were called to a North Market apartment house at 11:23 p.m. Thursday, where Kenny Haynes reported that he had fallen and hurt his head. The officer remained until an ambulance arrived to transport Haynes to a local hospital.

— Police were called to a Pritchard Avenue home at 4:35 a.m. Friday in regard to a woman who had fallen and could not get up. The fire department helped lift the woman, and the officer remained until an ambulance arrived to transport the woman to a local hospital.

— Amy and Paul Myers, East Chestnut Street, both called for an officer at 4:40 p.m. Friday to report they had been arguing to the point where it was scaring their five children. To defuse the situation, Ms. Myers took the children to her mother’s other house.

— Marie Shinn of Brookfield reported at 4:49 p.m. Friday she was driving her daughter, Taylor Merriman, to her daughter’s apartment of North Market Street when Merriman became angry while talking to her boyfriend on the phone. Shinn pointed at Merriman and told her to quit yelling, and Merriman than grabbed her mother’s finger and tried to bend it backward. Shinn hit the brakes and tried to get Merriman to let go of her finger but then Merriman grabbed her arm in an attempt to twist it. Merriman later called police to say she grabbed her mother’s hand to keep her wagging finger from striking her in the face.

East Liverpool

— Officers received a call Saturday about a man being inside the apartment of Brianna Reed, Wilbert Avenue, who said she awoke to find him at her bedside and she began screaming, causing him to flee. Reed went downstairs and found the kitchen window open, telling officers the man went into another apartment. They went to that apartment, where Jacob Coles said he was watching kids and there was no one else there. He then said Tyrone B. Foster, 42, was downstairs, and officers yelled for him and he answered, saying he was down there sleeping. They found him getting off the couch. Foster was on the trespass list for CMHA property and was charged with criminal trespass. Reed identified Foster as the man who was inside her apartment, according to reports.

— Officers responded to a suspected overdose at 8:19 a.m. Monday at a Wilbert Avenue residence, where a woman said her friend wasn’t breathing. Paramedics arrived and administered several vials of Narcan to the victim, who officers said did not respond well and became combative, ripping the IV line from her arm, kicking and thrashing around. Patrolman Don Fickes had to sit on the victim’s legs as her arms were restrained by the paramedics until a second ambulance crew and other police officers arrived from the city and St. Clair Township. The woman, not identified in reports, was transported to ELCH by ASI ambulance.

— While watching a suspected drug house on Martin Street Friday night, officers reported a man entered the house then entered a vehicle that left the area. The vehicle was stopped by K-9 officer Chad Tatgenhorst at Pennsylvania Avenue and Parkway. Patrolman Shawn Long arrived and identified the passenger as the person who had entered the home. The driver, Brandon Lee Hartley, 22, Wintersville, was asked to step out of the vehicle, and when asked if there was anything in the car, he advised there was a “stem” underneath the driver’s seat. Canine officer Ivo was run around the vehicle, reportedly alerting on it for narcotics. Officers began searching the vehicle and reported finding two plastic baggies, one filled with suspected crack cocaine and the other with suspected heroin. The items will be sent for testing. The stem found in the vehicle had not been used and still had a rose in it; it was destroyed. Although the occupant of the Martin Street house officers were watching was not identified, Patrolman Long reported that the landlord, Gregg Stowers, immediately served an eviction notice on the tenant following this incident.

Liverpool Township

— While on patrol on state Route 267, Saturday night, an officer reported seeing a southbound vehicle going left of center and initiated a traffic stop. He reported detecting the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked the driver, Stephen W. Young, 42, Washington Street, Newell, W.Va., if he could search it. Young was advised to remove items from his pocket and reportedly took out a cigarette pack containing a green leafy substance he identified as marijuana, telling the officer it was his. Young was charged with possession of marijuana, driving under suspension and a marked lanes violation.

East Palestine

— Police were called to the area of Valley and West Martin streets at 10:38 p.m. Friday for a report of a fire in the road. Police spoke with a resident who said they did not hear or see anything strange in the area and found that the fire had been extinguished.

— Police were called to the area of 35 Everett St. at 2:45 p.m. Saturday for a report that a phone line was hanging too low and was caught by a truck. The homeowner was able to get the line attached back to the house temporarily until the phone company could arrive later.

Leetonia

— Eric Householder, 43, Leetonia, was cited for fictitious plates after seeing his vehicle at the Leetonia K-12 campus at 1:33 p.m. Friday.

— Officers observed Reagan Duck, 20, Wellsville driving a vehicle in the area of Butcher Road and Washington Street at 7:38 p.m. Friday, who then switched positions with her passenger, Zach Willis, 23, Washingtonville. Duck was cited for driving under suspension and Willis was cited for a stop sign violation and possession of marijuana.

Salem

— Smith Oil on East State reported at 12:36 p.m. Monday someone driving a white four-door Toyota left without paying for $21.23 worth of gas.

— A woman in the 1200 block of East Pershing Street reported at 11:34 a.m. Monday that a known person stole 35 percocet pills in a prescription bottle from a bag near her bed. An officer spoke to the suspect, who denied it.

— Police responded at 10:49 a.m. Monday to the rear of a building in the 500 block of East State Street where a man inside was on the floor behind the counter. The fire department gained entry and found the man had fallen out of his chair and could not get back up off the floor. He refused to be taken to the hospital.

— A woman reported at 9:20 a.m. Monday that her sister had been at the SRMC to visit her and she did not want her there. Staff said the sister left before officers arrived.

— Thomas Andrew Ripley, 23, of 13989 Diagonal Road, was taken into custody on a warrant after being spotted in the city. He was also charged with possession of marijuana.

— A suspicious vehicle was reported in the 500 block of Eighth Street at 8:31 p.m. Sunday, described as a two-tone jacked up truck pulling into random driveways. Police found the truck and made contact with the female driver who said she was looking for a friend’s residence and that’s where the truck was located. Police contacted the friend who said she knew her.

— Police responded at 7:36 p.m. Sunday to the rear of Yuhanick’s Dry Cleaners in the Eastgate Plaza on State Street for a report of a man getting in the dumpster. An employee said the man left in a black truck, which police could not find.

— Matthew Douglas Burns, 19, of Calla Road, Canfield, was cited for a red light violation and possession of marijuana after a traffic stop at 7:05 p.m. Sunday.

— Jessica Wolfe, 42, of 2454 Woodsdale Road, was charged with theft after police were called to Walmart at 6:47 p.m. Sunday for a shoplifter. Loss prevention personnel reported seeing her possibly switching a lower dollar amount price tag to a more expensive bag of dog food. She then entered the self-checkout lane and only scanned a portion of her merchandise. The value of items not purchased was $41.

— A woman from Cleveland Street reported at Sunday she was at a family function in Niles and her mother’s boyfriend threatened her and her boyfriend a week ago. Her mother and her mother’s boyfriend live in Pennsylvania and it’s not likely for them to come to Salem. She was told how to proceed if something happens here.

— A woman at 5:02 p.m. Sunday wanted an officer to stand by while she went to her residence on Monroe Street to recover some of her property. She was concerned about a possible physical attack by her ex-boyfriend. She was told the police department does not do stand-bys but would respond to make sure no violence occurred. The ex-boyfriend was not there.

— A juvenile reported at 4:31 p.m. Sunday she recovered a bank debit card at the corner of Fair Avenue and East Pershing.

— A clerk at 2:17 p.m. Sunday reported a drive-off at Smith Oil on East State. The vehicle was described as a white four-door driven by a female.

— A woman in the 900 block of Jones Drive reported at 11:17 a.m. Sunday that she found a black lab running loose. She provided the dispatcher with a description of the tag number on the dog’s collar and the dispatcher was able to track down the owner through the county auditor’s website. The owner responded to retrieve the dog.

Salem

— Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 10:58 a.m. Monday at the high school, but arrived to find officials conducting a fire drill. Someone reportedly forgot to notify the fire department.
