Goshen cops say thanks for AED assistance

Morning Journal/Kevin Howell Les and Jan Seidner along with Bettie White, members of the Charlie’s Angels adult Sunday School class at Greenford Lutheran Church, display one of the AED units their donations helped purchase for the Goshen Police District. Officer Anthony Pilolli, left, and Chief Steve McDaniel are shown, as well.

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP – The Goshen Police District last week held an Appreciation Day for all the community members and organizations whose donations helped purchase machines used to revive cardiac arrest victims.

The department recently held a fundraising campaign to raise $4,000 for two state-of-the-art Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units. Thanks to the overwhelming support of the community, though, the department raised over $11,700, enabling the purchase of seven units.

“We want everyone to know how much we appreciate their support,” Chief Steve McDaniel said. “The community really stepped up and is making a difference for others.”

According to Officer Anthony Pilolli, the old AED units were over 20 years old and had been updated as much as possible. “They just needed replaced as soon as possible,” he said.

One unit will be installed in each of the six cruisers, with one remaining on station, McDaniel said. And one unit has already been used within the first week of the units being installed in the cruisers, he noted.

McDaniel said donations are still being accepted, with another unit at the administration building possible. Any extra funds will be used to offset the maintenance of the units for the next several years.

Pilolli said all Goshen officers are AED and CPR certified and the department holds training every two years.
