Wellsville names new high school principal

WELLSVILLE — The high school will have a new principal come this fall.

The school board agreed at this week’s meeting to hire Coy Sudvary as high school principal starting Aug. 1 under a three-year contract that will pay him an initial annual salary of $87,000. Sudvary comes from the Buckeye Local School District, where he served as high school principal for the past 11 years.

He will replace Linda Rolley, who is retiring after 45 years with the district, the last 10 as high school principal.

In other action, the board:

— Renewed contracts with teachers Megan Ross (3-year contract), and Cindy Earich (continuing contract), assistant treasurer Susan Ralton (one-year) and special educator coordinator/testing coordinator Susan Frampton for the upcoming school year.

— Hired Levi Kunselman as a new math teacher at Daw Elementary and Leah Prescott as a new business teacher at the high school.

— Renewed the contract of varsity wrestling coach, Gary Althiser, for three more years. Because Althiser is a school board member, he will be paid.

The board also reappointed the following coaches for the 2019-20 school year:

— Varsity football assistants: Jon Carter, Rob Long, Jesse Jackson, Randy Thrasher and Shawn Carter.

— Junior high football: Greg Beatty II.

— Eighth grade volleyball: Chris Amato

— Varsity boys basketball: Varsity assistant, Lonnie Fields; ninth grade, Jason Carter and Nate Scott; eighth grade, Randy Thrasher; and seventh grade, Jalen DeSarro;

— Golf: John Stoakes and Nick Bayer.

— Soccer: Cary LeMasters.

— Track: varsity assistants, David “Bug” Thompson and John Stoakes; junior high, Lonnie Fields.

The board also approved a seventh grade field trip to the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh.

The next board meeting is 6:30 p.m. June 17.
