Firefighter Aaron Hayter of Hanoverton recites his oath of office as a provisional member of the Salem Fire Department with his wife, Alisha, by his side and Salem Mayor John Berlin administering the oath Wednesday. Today is Hayter’s first day as a fill-in for Lt. Lance Ritchey, who is off on medical leave possibly for the next four to six months. Hayter is a volunteer firefighter with the Hanover Township Fire Department, along with his uncle and brother, and works in outside sales for ETL Performance in the Salem Industrial Park. Also present for the oath was his mom, Gloria, and brother, Jake, along with Salem Fire Chief Scott Mason and city Service/Safety Director Ken Kenst. Hayter was selected off of the current Salem Civil Service Commission list of potential firefighters.
