Baptist choir performs Sunday

Under the Dome concerts presents the New Bethel Baptist Church Choir at First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana at 6 p.m. Sunday. The free concert will begin with a special performance by the Dana Chorale featuring students from YSU’s Dana School of Music. Under the direction of Dr. Hae Jong Lee, the Chorale will perform an abbreviated program starting with Bach and ending with contemporary gospel composer Jeffrey Ames, with multiple stops between. Two years ago, the New Bethel Baptist Church choir held the audience at First Presbyterian both spellbound and ecstatic with their powerful mix of slave chants, traditional spirituals and contemporary gospel. “As soon as the final applause died down, we knew we wanted them back,” Fritz Nelson, First Presbyterian’s pastor, wrote in a press release. “Their energy, commitment and musicianship combine to create a powerful audience experience.”
