Trooper exposed to drugs during traffic stop

LISBON — A Lisbon patrol trooper was taken to the Salem Regional Medical Center Monday night as a precautionary measure after being allegedly exposed to suspected drugs during a traffic stop.

Sgt. Benjamin Dennison said Tuesday Trooper Drew Thomas stopped a driver on state Route 344 near Esterly Drive and at some point during the stop a white powdery substance ended up getting on Thomas.

Dennison said the post believes the substance Thomas was exposed to was cocaine, but that is pending lab results.

He added that at this point the driver has been charged with OVI and a traffic offense. Additional charges are pending the outcome of lab results, he said.

Trooper Thomas was released and is in good health.
