Kids rescued from elevator
WELLSVILLE — Two juveniles who found themselves stuck in a church elevator were rescued this week by village firefighters.
According to reports, the two young people, one in a wheelchair, were using the elevator Monday at Riverside Presbyterian Church on Riverside Street, when it became stuck on the top floor.
Six firefighters responded to the scene at 11:12 a.m. and had to use a variety of tools to pry open the doors to rescue the youngsters, which took a little over an hour.
The child in the wheelchair had to be relocated to a different wheelchair until his could be removed from the elevator, according to officials. No injuries were reported.
An additional six firefighters were on hand at the station.
In other calls this week, the department set up a landing zone Monday in the township for a medical emergency and, on Friday were called to an alarm drop at Shoub Towers which was canceled prior to firefighters’ arrival.
