Medical supply company gets board approval

COLUMBIANA — A medical dialysis supply company is moving into the industrial park after receiving final approval on Tuesday by the planning commission.

Charles Scheetz of HemaSource Inc. told the planning commission the company is moving into the facility on Heck Road, which was the former home of Universal Percussion. HemaSource Inc. will have 14 employees to start and will be leasing the space, which is actually for sale.

According to Scheetz the business will be using the space in the front of the building to operate the business and 25,000 square feet in the back will house pallets of saline solutions.

Planning commission unanimously voted to support the project.

A second potential project also was discussed at Tuesday’s meeting, with Austin Hogan speaking on behalf of his father, Todd Hogan about possibly purchasing the property on West Park Avenue where the Pampered Pet Grooming Salon is operating.

Hogan said his father would like to convert the pole barn on the property into commercial space and rent it out.

Board member Tucker Cope Jr. and Mayor Bryan Blakeman both expressed concern about the idea. Cope stated pole barns do not have the foundation and frost wall to become indoor facilities. Board members discussed that while they were unhappy with the pole barn in that location, converting it into commercial space may make things worse instead of improving them.

Hogan’s father has Edward Jones, which is currently on the circle but reportedly looking at a future home.

In other matters:

— Cope expressed his belief that the GM plant in Lordstown would not sit empty for long. Cope said with so much aluminum industry in the area, someone will want to utilize that space to be close by.

— The board also discussed whether Columbiana should be looking into having a third party building inspector, like Salem has decided to do. It was decided they may contact Salem to see how it is working for them before proceeding.
