So, you think this year is hot

LISBON –Wednesday marked the 18th day this year that temperatures in the Mahoning Valley reached or exceeded 90 degrees.

While that is double the annual average of nine days, it is far from the record set since 1930, according to the Journal’s news partner, WKBN 27 First News.

WKBN meteorologist Paul Wetzl reported Tuesday the record was 40 days set in 1931, which was tied in 1943. The following are the rankings of the other hottest years in terms of 90 degree days.

∫ 1933: 39 days

∫ 1934: 31 days

∫ 1936: 29 days

∫ 1988: 29 days

Wednesday was likely the last of the 90 degree days for 2018, with rain and cooler temperatures expected to move into the area today.

Besides, other parts of the country have had it worse this summer, much worse. It was over 100 Wednesday in parts of California and Arizona.
