Oktoberfest set Saturday in ELO

EAST LIVERPOOL — The eighth annual Oktoberfest sponsored by the East Liverpool and Calcutta Rotary Clubs is set for noon-8 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Park, featuring a full day of activities.

From 12-4 p.m., “Mr. Oktoberfest” Joe Maloy will be playing polka music on his accordion, with Grammy-nominated accordionist Kevin Solecki playing from 4-8 p.m.

Many different types of beer will be available, including offerings from local breweries like BirdFish in Columbiana and Numbers in Lisbon, with wine also available.

Oktoberfest steins will be available for purchase for imbibing the various beers that day or as keepsakes.

Many food vendors featuring authentic German cuisine, as well as other types of food, will be on hand during the festival, and nearly 40 craft booths will be set up selling a variety of wares.

Again this year, horse and buggy rides around the picturesque historic park will be offered, and many children’s activities will be available, including pumpkin painting, face painting, a bounce house, pony rides, train rides and, new this year, an inflatable slide and bungee challenge.

Also this year, a jumbo TV will be streaming college football games to entice those hardcore fans to come and enjoy everything there is to offer while still being able to watch their favorite teams, a great pairing with the German beers being offered.
