VFW to celebrate reopening

Wilfred Clunk VFW Post 4111 in Lisbon is holding a grand reopening/fundraiser from noon to midnight Saturday. The free event features a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, beer tent,and food from the grill for $10 per plate. Live entertainment is being provided by Gone Tomorrow from 2-4 p.m. and Pure Gold from 8-11 p.m. Clunk’s family is also to be on hand to present the post with his World War II medals, which include a Purple Heart and Silver Star. The proceeds go to helping the VFW recover after more than $100,000 in funds were embezzled in 2015-16, forcing the club to close for six months.

Drive-thru soup sales begin

The Mile Branch Grange will hold the season’s first monthly drive-thru soup sale Sept. 13. On the second Thursday of each month two soup choices will be offered on a rotating basis at $6 per quart. September’s soups will be stuffed pepper soup and loaded baked potato soup and will be available for pickup from 4-6 p.m. All soup must be pre-ordered by noon Sept. 12. To reserve soup call 330-821-8023 and leave your name, phone number, type of soup and number of quarts. Proceeds will be used for community projects.

DAHS Class of ’68 to gather

The David Anderson High School Class of 1968 will host an informal get-together at 5 p.m. Sept. 22 at Mark’s Landing. Trail walk to benefit MS effort

The 27th annual Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency’s “Super Walk” will be held Sept. 29 at the Greenway Trail in Lisbon. The walk will begin at the historical railway station and participants will walk by Beaver Creek. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m. All of the profits will go to help individuals living with multiple sclerosis in Columbiana County as well as Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Jazz to fill the air at SCC

ATV rodeo part of fall festival

The Highlandtown Volunteer Fire Department will have the fifth annual Fall Fest Sept. 15 at the fire hall. There will be a vendor show from 8 a.m. to noon and an ATV rodeo at 2 p.m. Sign-ups for the rodeo will begin at noon.

Bus heading to Rivers Casino
