Cat cuddled

Morning Journal/Steve Rappach

Monica Kerr holds a kitten she named Chief while members of the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department clean up the area after rescuing the kitten from under her car at the PC Doctors parking lot on state Route 170 in Calcutta Friday afternoon. Fire crews were called to the scene shortly before 12:30 p.m. following several attempts to remove the kitten from the vehicle. According to Kerr, she had arrived at the business around 10 a.m. to hear a meowing sound. The kitten was found underneath the hood, but later ran to the back of the vehicle underneath the gas tank. Fire crews worked for about 45 minutes before they were able to grab the kitten out from under the car and into safety. Crews left the scene around 1:30 p.m.
