Red Cross calls out to donors

The American Red Cross has issued an urgent call for blood donations as a seasonal decline in donors has led to a critical summer blood shortage across the U.S. To help ensure a sufficient blood supply is available locally, Salem Regional Medical Center and the Salem Community Center (SCC) will partner with the Red Cross to host a blood drive from 1-7 p.m. Aug. 24 at the SCC. Power red donations will be available at this drive, which means that individuals meeting certain criteria may elect to give two units of red blood cells at one time. Appointments are not necessary, but can be made by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or online at www.redcrossblood.org.
