Liverpool eyes renewal of fire levy

EAST LIVERPOOL — A special city council meeting has been called for 6 p.m. Monday to consider several specific pieces of legislation, including resolutions pertaining to placement of a fire levy renewal on the November ballot.

The filing deadline with the Elections Board is in August.

Also to be considered will be second reading of ordinances adjusting appropriations, including the salary and benefits of the new health/environmental inspector and another imposing a smoking ban on city playgrounds, Devon’s Diamond and Broadway Wharf. Those ordinances received first reading at council’s regular session last week.

An ordinance authorizing the mayor to seek a State Infrastructure Loan as part of the Elizabeth Street Bridge project will also be considered. It had been left off the agenda at the regular meeting.

President of Council John Torma said other legislation may also be considered if any surfaces.

A finance committee meeting will be held just prior to the council session at 5:30 p.m.

Both meetings will be held in council chambers at City Hall and are open to the public.
