Jim McCoy’s family
The annual gathering of Jim McCoy’s military friends and family had a few surprises this year. McCoy entered the Army shortly after graduating from Lisbon David Anderson High School in 1993. He was deployed to Kuwait and twice to Egypt and also was stationed in Korea, Fort Stewart, Fort Benning and then recruiting command. He left the service after 16 years, but retirement did not last long as he joined the Ohio National Guard, being deployed in 2009 to Iraq and two years later to Afghanistan. He was Platoon Sergeant of 812 Engineer Company, finally retiring after 21 years of service. McCoy has hosted get-together for for military friends and their families since 2010, but this year’s was special. The first surprise was when his son Cody McCoy flew home from Florida. The second was the presentation of a flag that was flown over the White House. Also they put together a trip to Washington, D.C., with the help of U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, The group raised $1,100 to cover expenses.
