Center of attention

Eighty-six-year-old Richard Smith of Wellsville was not injured in a crash at HMF Recycling in Lisbon on Friday. Lisbon firefighters and KLG Ambulance personnel responded to the crash. Workers at HMF saw Smith apparently hit the gas of his 2015 Toyota Camry and become airborne at the edge of an upper parking area, landing at the bottom of a hill where he struck the back of a parked, unoccupied Asplundh utility trailer attached to a large pickup truck, which was also moved forward and sideways from the force of the crash. Workers estimated his speed to have reached 40 mph by the time he became airborne. Smith reportedly thought he was hitting the brake. Center Township police officer Tab Bailey, who is investigating the crash, indicated there would be no charges. Bailey said a family member was to take Smith to get checked.
