The new and the old
New Waterford Fiscal Officer Dave Slagle holds pieces of the new and old six-inch waterlines that have been installed and bypassed in the village. The sample of the blue C-900 plastic piece, left, replaces now badly-corroded and pitted iron piping that was installed “probably in the late 1930s or early 1940s,” he said. The life span of the new piping is estimated at anywhere from 35 to 100 years, but Slagle said it really hasn’t been established since it’s new. The new lines, part of a multi-million dollar, two-phase water distribution renovation project, were set in the ground parallel to the old lines. Slagle said they have already decreased the village’s electric bill. After one month, the village saved $700 in electric usage and Village Administrator Jason Gorby said more water is flowing more efficiently and some residents say it even tastes better.
