Summit man captured in county facing murder charge

CHAMBERSBURG — The man under investigation for the death of his father on Monday appeared in Stow Municipal Court on Tuesday and did not enter a plea to the first-degree felony murder charge.

Michael Clark, 28, of Macedonia, appeared via video for his arraignment with Judge Lisa L. Coates. He remains in Summit County jail on a $1 million cash bond and is scheduled to appear back in court for a preliminary hearing with Coates on June 4.

Clark was taken in custody by highway patrol troopers on Monday in Columbiana County on state Route 172 in West Township. He is believed to have assaulted both of his parents with a knife in their Summit County home earlier that day, resulting in the death of his father, Joe Clark, 62.

Clark is charged with murder for allegedly stabbing his father and mother, Audrey Roberson, at their Macedonia home. Mrs. Roberson was taken to an area hospital for her injuries.

Macedonia Police Detective Richard Lea is investigating the case, and said on Tuesday that Clark was arrested by patrol troopers without incident and taken to an area hospital for injuries to his wrist. He was turned over to Macedonia police sometime around 8 p.m.

Lea said he is still awaiting more details from the patrol regarding the arrest.

He said that based on preliminary details, it appears that a patrol trooper first came across Clark after noticing a disabled vehicle on the road and stopping to possibly assist with any problems. The vehicle was a 2007 white Ford pickup truck, which was what Clark was reported to be driving when he fled his parent’s home.

Lea said that the trooper immediately requested backup and that his department was notified by the county sheriff’s office. Additional details were not made available on Tuesday.

According to online court records through Stow court, Clark has an extensive criminal history — being charged more than 40 times — which includes three prior domestic violence convictions going back to 2014, and several traffic violations.
