New to the force

East Liverpool Police Department’s newest officer, Patrolman Justin Watkins, had his badge pinned on by his girlfriend Sarah Guildoo after being sworn in Wednesday by East Liverpool Municipal Judge Melissa Byers Emmerling. The ceremony was witnessed by a number of police officers from both East Liverpool and other departments, city officials, friends and family members. An East Liverpool resident, Watkins graduated from the local high school and earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Pittsburgh Technical Institute. He completed his police training at Eastern Gateway Community College in 2015 and served two years as an officer with the Liverpool Township Police Department and most recently was with the St. Clair Township Police Department before being hired by the ELPD. He begins his duties on the daylight shift today, according to Chief John Lane. The hiring of an additional officer was made possible with revenue from traffic cam enforcement, according to Service-Safety Director Brian Allen.
