Second man charged in drive-by

LISBON — An additional man has been charged in connection to the drive-by shooting in Rogers which struck a resident in the head early Monday morning.

An Oct. 23 preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nicholas J. Voigt, 21, Carmel-Achor Road, Rogers, charged with discharging a firearm in or at an occupied structure. Voigt appeared for arraignment on Friday morning in Columbiana County Municipal Court.

According to court documents, Voigt was the front seat passenger in a silver 2001 Buick and fired about 10 rounds into the front window of a home at 7700 Depot St., Rogers, striking Matthew T. Casto in the head with one of the rounds. His bond is set at $50,000 cash or surety.

Joseph A. Reed, 23, East Main Street, East Palestine, who was initially charged with felonious assault drive-by, had an additional charge of complicity to discharge a firearm in or at an occupied structure added to his charges on Friday. Reed appeared for a second arraignment on the new charge.

The new court document states Reed is believed to have been driving the vehicle and slowed it in front of Casto’s home so Voigt could fire into the home. Reed also reportedly knew Casto slept on the daybed or couch in front of the window, which appeared to be the target area of the bullets.

Reed remains scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Monday, and his bond is set at $50,000 cash or surety.

Casto was treated and released the same day as the shooting.
