Crash sends 2 to hospital
EAST LIVERPOOL — A three-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon on state Route 7 near Shadyside Avenue sent two people to the local hospital with minor injuries.
According to city Patrolman Kevin Thompson, Ronald B. Barton, 67, Summerset Road, East Liverpool, was driving a CARTS van south on state Route 7 when he crossed over the center divider, striking a northbound vehicle driven by Cassandra Elliott, 57, Toronto, who was stopped in traffic.
Barton’s van continued on, striking a northbound vehicle driven by John Sousa, 38, Toronto.
Both Elliott and Sousa were transported by ambulance to East Liverpool City Hospital for what Thompson said appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Barton was not injured but was cited for a marked lanes violation.
Thompson said Barton indicated his view was obscured by the sun, which apparently caused him to strike the low-lying median strip, bouncing his van into the opposing lane.
