First brush, then leaves in Leetonia

Leetonia will hold fall brush pickup the week of Oct. 16 and continuing through Oct. 27. Leaf pickup will begin the week of Oct. 30. Residents are asked to stack all cut brush only in the curb lawn area and not restrict sidewalks, ditches or place material on the street. Brush must be stacked all in the same direction. The village will only pick up trimmings and will not haul away entire trees. Residents are warned not to mix leaves and other debris in the brush piles or the village will not pick them up. The next brush pickup will be held in May 2018.

Columbiana seeking Christmas tree

The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking a tree to be placed on the town square during Christmas. If you have a stately pine tree that you would like to donate to be on display, contact the Chamber office at 330-482-3822 to schedule for the tree to be examined. The tree must be able to be safely cut and removed from the property.

Work to restric one lane on Route 7

Northbound state Route 7 in Jefferson County will be restricted to one lane next week for centerline joint repairs just south of the Columbiana County line. Work, which will begin Wednesday, is expected to take place between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. It should be completed by Friday.

Lisbon church plans spaghetti dinner

The New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, North Market Street, is holding a spaghetti dinner from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. The cost, by donation, is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 4-12. Carryouts will be available. There also will be basket raffles. All proceeds will go to the church building maintenance fund. Take out available. Tickets can be purchased at church office, from any session member or at the door.

Characters Outloud to serve meatloaf

Characters Outloud will be sponsoring its second annual meatloaf dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the at the First Presbyterian Church, 28 Park Ave., Columbiana. Characters Outloud is a 5013c nonprofit therapeutic ministry which reaches out to the homeless, the addicts and their families, and anyone finding themselves in a crisis situation. Characters Outloud offers a cafe in the summer months, on the first Friday of the month. This is for anyone in the community. There are staff who are there to talk, or you can just hang out. Magpie to perform on Saturday in Salem

Dulci-More: Folk & Traditional Musicians will host Magpie at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Dale Shaffer Research Library of the Salem Historical Society, 239 S. Lundy, Salem. Parking is available in the municipal lot across Lundy. The building is handicapped accessible. Admission is $10 with an additional $5 covering all children in a family. Author to speak in Leetonia

Author and speaker Michael B. Ross (right) will present “THRIVE: Get more of what you want by being more of who you are” in an assembly to Leetonia students in grades 5-12 on Thursday, Oct. 17. Ross is the president of Mainstream Leadership Network (MLN), a character development and leadership training company located in East Liverpool. He is the author of the books Overcoming the Character Deficit and A Clearview: Unleashing the Power of a Positive Self-image. Ross said some trends he’s seen in the workplace make him excited about presenting his material to Leetonia’s students. “Too many people go to work miserable because they’re working in a field they don’t enjoy,” Ross said. “I want the students to realize their unique gifting can and should be a part of their career path.”

Center Township/Lisbon to collect tires

Center Township and the village of Lisbon will hold a tire collection Oct. 19-21. Tires will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the township building on Industrial Park Road. Only car and light truck tires will be accepted and all must be off the rims.

Dental van to visit Lisbon library

The Lepper Library in Lisbon will be hosting the Mercy Health Dental Van from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18. Exams will be available for free or at reduced pricing. Call the library at 330-424-3117 for more information.
