Beaver BOE handles personnel matters

CALCUTTA — The Beaver Local school board Monday approved 15 supplemental contracts.

Contracts for the middle school were awarded to Jess Darrah as student council adviser, Sarah Lowe as yearbook adviser, Amilee Little as Honors Club adviser, Beth Barber as Academic Challenge adviser, Lisa Staley as fifth grade class adviser, Bill Grischow as eighth grade class adviser, Anne Eisenhart as Interact adviser and Vicki Barnett as sixth grade class adviser.

Contracts for the after-school detention program were awarded to Darrah, Staley, Bree Hall, Jennifer Awana, Thelma Kelly and Veronica Hall.

Five new substitutes also were approved: paraprofessional Danielle Myers and teachers Debby Clutter, Ron Foster, Deborah Sciance and Adam Petcovic.

Michael Cunningham was hired as a 212-day custodian.

The board also approved 219 middle school volunteers and 337 elementary school volunteers.

In other business:

— The board approved the Class of 2018 senior field trip, set May 19-22 in Williamsburg, Va. No instruction days are anticipated to be missed, as the trip will be held during the traditional Senior Week.

— The board approved a Business Advisory Council agreement with the Columbiana County Educational Service Center’s governing board.

The ESC will handle delineation of employment skills and development of curriculum; changes to economy and job market along with what employment would be available in the future; and suggestions for developing a working relationship among many businesses, labor organizations and educational personnel.

The next meeting is 7 p.m. Oct. 9 in the multimedia room at the school.
