USDA distributing rabies vaccine in the county
The Columbiana County Health Department is announcing that the United States Department of Agriculture will be distributing oral rabies vaccine baits in the county starting Aug. 21 through Sept. 1. The baits will be distributed in eastern Ohio counties, along with areas on the corridor of the Ohio River in Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, by plane in rural areas and ground baiting in the areas of Lisbon and East Palestine. If a bait is found, leave it alone, unless they are where children or pets play. To move the baits safely, wear gloves or use a barrier when picking up the baits, toss intact baits into a wooded area or other raccoon habitat. Damaged baits should be placed in a bag and disposed. Wash hand thoroughly after contact.
