Cleanup to affect 164 drivers

State Route 164 will be restricted soon in the village of Salineville to make emergency repairs associated with a recent structure fire at the intersection of state Route 39. Work will include cleaning up debris from the fire and rebuilding the embankment to support the roadway. Two-way traffic will be maintained in one lane with temporary signals. Construction is expected to begin during the first week of August and take about two months to complete. ODOT’s contractor for this project, estimated to cost $200,000, is Alan Stone Co. from Cutler, Ohio.

Ghostly times on the trolley

The Salem Ghost Trolley Tour takes people out of the downtown area to cemeteries and other “haunted” areas around the city. Wearing good walking shoes is recommended. The cost is $15. The first tours for this season are at 8 p.m. Saturday and Aug. 26. Tours meet at The Dale Shaffer Research Library meeting room, 239 S. Lundy Avenue. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 330-205-3923.

Supplying Leetonia students

The Leetonia First United Methodist Church, 50 Lisbon St., and the Robbins Methodist Church, 100 High St., Washingtonville, will each host a school supply giveaway for students in the Leetonia school district from 6-7 p.m. Aug. 10 at the church. The student must be present and accompanied by a parent, and also must present a report card or other proof that they are enrolled in the Leetonia district. ‘Aladdin Kids’ to take the stage

Crown Theater Productions Summer Drama Camp will present Disney’s “Aladdin Kids” at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Columbiana theater. Doors open one hour prior to showtime. Tickets can be purchased online at www.crowntheaterproductions.org

Dinner has a picnic theme

The First Brethren Church in North Georgetown, will host a free community dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday. The menu this month has a picnic theme. It will feature shredded turkey sandwiches, macaroni salad, chips and pretzels, watermelon and beverage. All are welcome. Donations are accepted but are not necessary. The church is located on Main Street (Georgetown Road) across from Reichenbach Motor Sales and Service in North Georgetown.

House Band to perform Sunday

The House Band will be featured in a free concert from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Firestone Park in Columbiana. The Youngstown-based band plays a variety of current and classic music.

Self-defense program offered

Mike Viola, owner of Salem Self Pro Martial Arts, will demonstrate techniques that can improve your chances of surviving predatory dangers during hte Salem Public Library’s Wellness Wednesday program at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9. Registration is required at www.salem.lib.oh.us or 332-0042.

Program on Peace Corps slated

The Lepper Library in Lisbon will host Ellen Stryffeler at 6 p.m. Monday. Stryffeler, a United Local graduate, will talk about the Peace Corps and her experience in the country of Belize. Call 330-424-3117 to register.

Idora Park focus of program

Youngstown author and historian Richard S. Scarsella will share the history of the founding of iconic Idora Park in 1899 through the final season of 1984 at 6:30 p.m. July 31 at the Salem Library. Featured topics will include the grand ballroom, wooden roller coasters, water ride, kiddie-land, picnic gardens, the minor league ball field and the Idora french fries.
