Seven will perform with fair band, choir

The All-Ohio State Fair Band and Choir will be the musical entertainers for the Ohio State Fair. This will be the All-Ohio State Fair Band’s 93rd year and the 54th year for the All-Ohio State Fair Choir’s 54th year. The band represents 84 schools while the choir represents 96 schools across Ohio. Students in grades 9-12 are selected by the director based on ability and experience, recommendation of the high school choral director, geographical considerations and the consent of the parent or guardian. Students who were chosen to represent Columbiana County are Quinn Lowther, Victoria Mollenkopf, Jocelyn Steward, Kyle Zimmerman and Emilee Sanor, all performing in the band; and Gracie LaScola and Grace Shockey, who will be performing with the choir.

School supplies to be given out

For the ninth consecutive year, Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, New Waterford, will be passing out school supplies and clothing from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 5. Students who live in the Crestview, Columbiana, Heartland Christian, Leetonia, East Palestine, Lisbon and Beaver Local School districts, including home-schooled students in those districts and members of the five churches in the Crestview district, are eligible. They must bring a report card from the previous school year, driver’s license or document showing proof of residency in one of those districts. Supplies are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis and there is no pre-registration. Fresh produce, bounce houses and children’s games will also be offered. Following the cleanup, a worship service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Donations of good, clean children’s clothing will be accepted at the church or office 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Aug. 1. School supplies can be donated at the Columbiana branch of Home savings. Willow Grove park still closed

Willow Grove Park will remained closed while maintenance is being performed until further notice. For more information call Parks Manager Dana Blackburn at 424-7548.

Edupalooza planned in Liverpool

Students in grades K-12 are are welcome to join the Edupalooza event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 12 on Fifth Street in East Liverpool. Custodial parents and guardians, interested in registering their child, must bring their child’s identification and birth certificate between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays at the East Liverpool Way Station. Once a child is registered, a voucher will be given that can be brought to the Edupalooza event to redeem for a book bag. For more information on registration call Tammy at 330-932-0353.

United sets grade 7 orientation

United Local Junior High will have seventh grade orientation at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 in the auditorium. Students will receive their schedules, purchase school locks, find lockers and classrooms. Those attending should arrive early to pick up materials.

Yard sale to benefit Mike Baun

A yard sale benefit will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 19 at American Legion Post 131 in Leetonia for former Leetonia police officer Mike Baun, who is undergoing cancer treatment and kidney surgery. Table rentals are available by calling 427-6259.
