Roads readied for South Field Energy project

WELLSVILLE — Township roadways to be utilized during construction of the South Field Energy electric power plant were finalized last week by Yellow Creek Township trustees.

Construction is to begin sometime this year.

Two stretches of Osbourne, totaling 3.11 miles, will be part of the route, as will two stretches on Hibbetts Mill (totaling 0.79 miles), 0.57 miles of Forbes, 1.66 miles of Fife Coal, and 0.13 miles of Sines.

Trustee Kenny Biacco reported South Field project manager Zac Gordon will be visiting the area this week. Rather than a formal meeting, Biacco said Gordon will travel Wednesday through the township and go door-to-door and answer questions by residents.

In other business:

— Biacco reported the chemical treatment of Japanese knotweeds (also known as whiskey weeds) recently took place along Zacharias Drive; Wells Hollow, Crawford, Hibbetts Mills, McKee and Hoffman roads; and both 18th and 25th street heights.

Trustee Mark Allison said the chemicals used take about a week to kick in, and Biacco said a difference already has been noticed.

— Biacco reported $20,019 of an ODOT grant was used to purchase and set up 262 road signs throughout the township.

— Contractor Emmanuel Schmock, who has worked on the township’s garage throughout the past couple years, performed touch-up efforts throughout the building, Biacco said, but has yet to install snowbars to the roof of the garage, which will be done soon.

— Biacco reported the township purchased a Honda pressure washer from Tractor Supply for $540.

— The next ‘ meeting is 6:30 p.m. June .
