WINONA — Deputies responded at 12:36 a.m. Sunday to a Whinnery Road home for reports of someone being pinned underneath a truck and found Dakota Santee, no age listed, in the driveway with Winona Fire Department also on the scene.

Santee’s aunt had arrived at the residence, discovered Santee underneath the left front tire of the truck and drove the vehicle off him, according to reports. Santee had called 911 while he was pinned under the truck. Santee’s grandmother was home but she said she was sleeping on the couch in the living room and her grandson was working on the truck outside, but she was unaware he was in trouble until her daughter, Santee’s aunt. arrived home.

According to deputies’ reports, they both found the scene to be “odd.”

Deputies reported seeing a pry bar on the ground but no other tools, including no jack or jack stands. They noted Santee was not wearing shoes and there were footprints on the hood of the truck.

Reports noted Santee was in critical condition when deputies arrived, but they said he was coherent and alert enough to state he was working on the truck alone.

Deputies said it is unknown if the truck slipped out of gear and rolled onto the victim, who was airlifted by helicopter to an unspecified medical facility.
