ACH eyes new facility in Lisbon
LISBON — Akron Children’s Hospital is expanding its presence in town by building a stand-alone pediatric facility at the corner of North Market and East Pine streets.
The one-story 4,815-square-foot building is to be constructed in the large vacant lot that served as home for the seasonal produce stand that has since relocated just north of town on state Route 45.
ACH’s presence in Lisbon began when it acquired the private practice of local pediatrician Dr. B.N. Bhat following his retirement in late 2015. ACH began operating in January 2016 as ACH Pediatrics at Dr. Bhat’s former office in the East of Chicago plaza.
The new facility will be located across Pine Street from the plaza and result in an increase in the number of exam rooms from three to 10, along with parking for up to 38 vehicles, including two spots for the handicapped. It will also feature two waiting rooms to separate sick patients from well patients. The current staff of eight features two part-time physicians and a full-time nurse practitioner, with new employees to be added after the building opens.
“Since we came to Columbiana County in 2016 it’s been a privilege to provide pediatric primary care for our patients,” said Ben Teske, director of ACH’s pediatric and primary care services. “We’re excited about the new Lisbon building and family friendly features such as triple the number of exam rooms and ample parking.
“The office will be virtually paperless, with computers in every exam room to allow providers and patients to review medical information together. We’ll also share ACH’s news and health information via a large flat-screen TV in the waiting area,” he concluded.
Construction is scheduled to begin July 5, with a tentative opening date of mid December.
ACH operates 27 satellite facilities in 12 other Ohio counties.
