Palestine fair opens Thursday
EAST PALESTINE — It’s that time of the year when amusement rides crop up along the side streets of the business district.
The colorful rides, like Zero Gravity, are just one part of the annual Street Fair sponsored by the East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce. This year’s 130th fair will also include new theme days for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The fair will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, with that day’s theme being Senior Citizen Day. Those 50 years old and up will be eligible for a $25 gift card to Tom’s Tires. The drawing will be held that evening.
Friday will kick off Kid’s Day, with kids and their parents both eligible to sign up for a prize of one free ride pass for all day Saturday. The drawing will be held Friday evening.
Saturday is Family Day, and adults only are eligible to win one family pool pass for 2017 for a family of five. The drawing will be held at 9 p.m. that evening.
There is no charge to enter the drawings, which can be done at the Chamber of Commerce booth.
The chamber is also sponsoring a $5,000 again this year, with the winner announced Sunday, the last day of the fair.
Tickets are already being sold at many local businesses. There will also be nightly drawings for smaller amounts.
Rides are being provided by Bates Amusements of Wellsville. Tickets are $1 each or $10 for a packet of 12 tickets. Large rides require four tickets for entrance and children’s rides require three tickets.
Daily unlimited ride passes will also be on sale for $10 for Thursday and Friday and $15 Saturday and Sunday.
Ticket booths will be located throughout the midway, which will also boast several food vendors for a variety of food options. Games will also be a part of the entertainment as well.
Live music will be provided on Friday by Sparrow and Marlene Figley and on Saturday by 7 Stone and the Chub Scouts.
Fair hours are 5-10 p.m. Thursday, 5-11 p.m. Friday, 1-11 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday.
