Dunkin’ building in Calcutta

CALCUTTA — Those rumors filtering around the community are true — Dunkin’ Donuts soon will be opening in Calcutta.

Construction currently is underway along state Route 170 at the site that previously housed at least two health-related businesses, the last being Ohio Valley Home Health, next to the entrance of Calcutta Square. Being developed by Sabatine BK Development of Boardman, the new location will be operated by franchisee White Donuts LLC.

A grand opening is expected in July.

The new Dunkin’ Donuts site will not only feature the usual variety of doughnuts, coffees, sandwiches and cold and frozen drinks, as well as free Wi-Fi service for its customers, but, according to Jim Sabatine of Sabatine BK Development, the Calcutta site, which is all new construction, also will include some unique features not seen at other Dunkin’ locations.

“The building’s going to be amazing,” Sabatine said. “It’s going to have a fireplace in it. It’s the newest prototype, it’s all brick and block.”

Sabatine said crews began construction efforts in April, and are looking to continue daily despite the recent rain. He also mentioned that St. Clair Township trustees were looking forward to the new addition as it adds business and employment in the area.

“It’s going to be a brand new Dunkin’,” Sabatine said. “I know the trustees were excited for the new construction and the new jobs. Instead of having an old building sitting there with nobody in it, this is going to be a vibrant business with a lot of employees. It’s also tax revenue for the county.”

According to Sabatine, Dunkin’ will soon start the hiring process by accepting employment applications.

White Donuts LLC owns and operates several other Dunkin’ Donuts locations, including four in Columbiana County: two in Salem, one in Lisbon and one in Columbiana. Franchises also are owned throughout the Hermitage, Pa., area, as well as in North Canton.

Dunkin’ Donuts is the latest addition to the Calcutta area, which had three businesses open within the past year: the AT&T outlet and Domino’s Pizza, both located in the former Payless Shoe Store building, which Sabatine BK developed last summer, and Mattress Emporium in the DC Music Plaza.
