Spot open on Palestine park board

EAST PALESTINE — The village’s park board is in need of a new member.

Alan Cohen, who serves on council’s park board committee, said Gene Hoffman personally gave him a letter of resignation before the board meeting earlier that day on Tuesday.

Hoffman has served on the board for several years and resigned for personal reasons. He was in the third month of his new five-year term and was appointed to the board by council, Cohen said.

Council is now taking letters of interest for the vacant seat and letters can be given to Council Clerk Misti Martin at the village administrative offices at 85 N. Market St.

Whomever is selected as a replacement will serve the remainder of Hoffman’s five-year term.

The remaining members of the board, including Marge Slavik and Charlsi Miller Lehman, then held the annual organizational meeting and elected officers.

Those elected as officers were Nate Foster as president, Bonnie Sansenbaugher as secretary and Dan McKinstry as treasurer.

The board set regular meetings at 6 p.m. the third Monday of every month. The meetings are open to the public.

The next meeting is set for April 17 at the community center in village park.

Cohen said the board discussed various projects for the park, including repair and maintenance of the volleyball courts, maintenance of the several ball fields, and plans for the annual village Fourth of July celebration, which the park board intends to oversee again this year.
